I think this happens sometimes when Craftsy features the pattern somewhere (like they did on Facebook). When there are a lot of people trying to download at the same time I think it gives some people some problems. Keep trying and if you are still getting an error you will need to contact Craftsy's customer support and they will fix you up quickly!

Thanks for the pattern! I've just started the second square of tier 2, and I've got a question. For row 1 of the second and third square, do I need to "sl last stitch picked up to left needle, and ssk " or is that only for the first square in the tier? (I watched the VeryPink tutorial, which is excellent, but she only demonstrates the first square in the tier, so I wasn't sure. Thanks so much for your help!

Hi Freckles & Purls. I am running into an issue while knitting this scarf: I keep finding only 7 stitches to pick up instead of 8. What am I doing wrong? Thanks

FrecklesnPurls on craftsy.com
FrecklesnPurls  October 24, 2014
Flag as inappropriate

Make sure you're picking up a stitch up close to the needle. Sometimes people will start picking up the stitches farther down the side (farther away from the needle at the top of the section). You can also pick up a stitch in the corner at the bottom. Just pick up 8 sts evenly along the edge. If they don't correspond exactly with the slipped st edge then that is ok! I hope this is clear! Let me know if it isn't!

Hi Freckles& Purls, i confess i'm not he strongest knitter but i do so love a challenge and this one looked beautiful. I have two problems so far. I've CO 24 sts, done the base triangle but still have plenty of stitches left. Is that right? I moved on to the second part and when trying to do the left side triangle you have KFB (bar st). Do i only do 1 KFB or the whole row?! Do you have maybe a tutorial video for this?

FrecklesnPurls on craftsy.com
FrecklesnPurls  September 12, 2014

Hi Yasmine!

There is a very good video tutorial on this exact pattern filmed by Staci Perry of verypink.com. The tutorial can be found here - http://verypink.com/2011/12/22/learn-to-knit-entrelac/

One thing to note - If I'm remembering correctly, Staci does change the decreases at the end of the WS rows in the Right Side Triangles on Tier 1. The instructions say to end with a k2tog and I think she does a p2tog in the video. If you want the edges of your scarf to match, stick with the k2togs there.

I hope this helps! Her tutorial is very in depth! Once you get the hang of it, you'll be flying! :)

FrecklesnPurls on craftsy.com

Instead of making a ton of scarves and sewing them together, you can easily change the number of stitches cast on and make it as wide as you need it. Just make sure that the number of stitches you cast on is divisible by 8. The directions won't be different (the only difference will be the number of squares/triangles you will have in each tier).

can you please specify what you would consider Aran Weight yarn?

FrecklesnPurls on craftsy.com
FrecklesnPurls  July 16, 2013

Aran weight yarn falls between Worsted and Bulky. It is a little bit thicker than Worsted weight yarn but is still considered a "medium" weight yarn. A helpful chart for yarn weights can be found here - http://www.ravelry.com/help/yarn/weights

Hope this helps! Sorry for the late reply.

FrecklesnPurls on craftsy.com
FrecklesnPurls  July 16, 2013

Also, you can use ANY weight yarn for this pattern! Just use the best needle size for your yarn. Thinner yarns will produce a skinnier scarf and bulkier yarns will result in a large one! :)

I too love this pattern, just never knew what it was called. found a store flyer many years ago that just called it a basket weave. Once you have the basics down, its quite simple to adapt to what ever you want to make. You can even make the weaves a different size, just make sure to cast on multiples of that number.

Fell in love with entrelac. Not really difficult but I do need to pay attention. I, too, have knitted a long time and do well with written patterns. Not so well with charts. Maybe that will be my next challange..

kebhl153859  April 4, 2012

I agree that IF you can follow directions, you should be able to knit this. I can follow directions if written, but have a great deal of difficulty with charts. My eyesight just isn't good enough to follow them--I can't even make out what some of the symbols are, much less knit them! I wish people who write patterns would provide written instructions instead of (or in addition to) charts! I just purchased a pattern (which I very rarely do) only to find it has only a chart and NO written instructions. Which means I won't be able to knit it! Very upsetting!!

I always not only enlarge, but mark off every 5 or 10 rows and columns (depending on complexity of pattern) with a heavy line to make it easier to follow. I find that I switch between charts and written, using whichever seems easier for that pattern. Sometimes I even color in the charts so that, say, green means k2tog and yellow p2tog, marking the key as well, of course.
