Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Provisional CO, knit, purl, yarn-overs.

Pattern Description:

Made in chunky weight merino, Easy Brioche Cowl knits fast and is very warm. It is worked sideways, so you can decide how wide you want it as you work, and its two ends are knitted together at the back - no sewing is needed.


9 sts and 12 rows = 10 cm/ 4 in, in brioche st, measured unblocked. Gauge is not crucial in this pattern.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Small (Large, Extra-Long) (Size Extra-Long is worn wrapped twice around the neck.) Circumference: 56 (80, 140) cm/ 22 (31.5, 55) in. Height: 18 (27, 18) cm/ 7 (10.5, 7) in. Shown in size Large.


  • Yarn: 1 (2, 3) skeins of Malabrigo Chunky (100% merino wool, 95 m/ 100 yds per 100g, shown in col. 148 Holly Hock), or approx 95 (190, 285) m/ 100 (200, 300) yds of chunky weight yarn.
  • Needles and notions: 8 mm (US size 11) straight needles; one 9 mm (US size 13) DPN or circular needle; scrap yarn.
