This shawl was designed for a friend of mine with cancer. She loves dragons and fantasy so this seemed to be the right gift as she started treatment. I wrote the Emily Dickenson quote in the card when I gave it to her.

The colour and style was inspired by The Game of thrones Picture of Daenerys Targaryen, The Mother of Dragons and her newly hatched dragon. She found a strength inside her she never knew she had and fighting cancer needs this strength.

This pattern includes extensive notes about how to make the self stripe sections of the yarn equal sizes as the shawl grows. This prevents the colour bands getting narrower which was important for this design.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • 21.5" (55cm) deep x 46" (117) across top edge.

Materials:

  • Nurturing Fibres Super Twist Sock Wool (100g; 330m / 360yds) in Dragon's Hope colourway or similar self stripe to get the same effect. Solid colours or variegated can also be used.
  • Needles: 4mm / US 6 circular needles at least 80cm / 32 inches long.

You Will Also Need:

  • Notions: Stitch markers (between two and fourteen depending on placement). Tapestry needle for weaving in ends. Blocking wires and pins (optional).

360 yards of Fingering weight
