Hi Katya, I am knitting this pattern for the second time but still finding the same problem I had first time round. I want this one to be perfect so I need your help about the number of stitches I should have at the end of each row on the wedge instructions.
I am starting with 30 sts. so after 1st row I should have 31 with the one increase?
Row 2 no increase, row 3 is an increase so now 32 sts?
Row 4, there is a Knit two tog. which brings it back to 31 sts.*
Row 5 is another increase so now 32 sts.
Yet the pattern states I should have 33.

Where am I going wrong please? * Also Row 4 talks about the wrap stitch but that was two rows back, so is it just K2tog there?

Hi Katya! I'm almost done with my hat and I love it already! I have a few questions about the finishing instructions.
1. The instructions say to sew the edges together from brim to crown, but I think (after ending on row 8, at the brim, and casting off, up to the crown) my working yarn will be in the wrong place. Am I misunderstanding something here?

2. After securing the working thread on the inside of the hat, the instructions say to "Lead out the needle onto right side." Does this mean that I crochet with the working yarn on the outside of the hat? If so, am I supposed to be attaching the crochet stitches to a particular row of knitting stitches?

3. Finally, the instructions say "With hook size 4.5 mm ch 8, 1 sc in each of the next 7 ch, join with ss to the first sc of the tail, fasten off."
Does this mean I crochet with the working thread from the crown down to the tail at the brim, and then somehow join the working thread and the tail there?

My confusion might be because I'm not very familiar with crocheting--I'll do some more reading to see if I can figure it out, but any guidance would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Ooh! I think I figured out the crocheting part--it makes a little tab/loop at the center top of the hat, yes? I just couldn't see it in the pictures. Still not sure about casting off--should I cast off as my final row 8, so I'll end at the brim of the hat?

Absolutely love this pattern. I've made at least six hats. It works well with various fibers and I even used worsted wool for one hat. It turned out more delicate looking but so cute.

Absolutely love this pattern. Made my first set over the past weekend and as soon as the yarn arrives for my granddaughter's, will make another. Couldn't believe how easy and fast it was to make. Absolutely love the edge stitch and plan to incorporate it into other projects I make because it makes such a nice, even finished edge.

Dear Ms. KatyTricot,
I noticed I have written several comments over the last month or so. I would just like to know if the pattern I purchased is available in crocheting. I don't know how to knit. I was hoping you could exchange my oops purchase of the knitted pattern simply to a crochet pattern.

Hi! I'm really sorry to ask this question again, but I'm worried I'm still doing something wrong. I've knitted 8 sections, and the bottom of the hat is very, very tight. I just don't see how it will fit over my daughter's head. Do I need to keep the edge stitches extremely loose? Has anyone else run into this issue? I tend to be a very tight knitter, so I'm sure it is probably something I'm doing wrong.

I think I finally figured it out! I was forgetting that the "edge stitch" has more than one part and slipping a stitch every time I read "edge stitch." Instead I should be doing the second part of the stitch by purling the last stitch on rows 4, 6, and 8. Is that correct? Thank you again for your willingness to help and answer all my crazy questions!

Hello Katy, how are you feeling today? First off I have to say I love your work. You are very talented. I'm making the hat and neck warmer for my niece and I wanted to know if there a way to knit the pattern in the round? I have round knitting needles I use for hat just wondering. Thanks

Hello,
thank you for your kind compliments!
It is impossible to knit this hat in the round since it is worked sideways in rows. Circular needle is used for its flexibility here, but you may use straight needles if preferred.
Hope this helps!

on both RS and WS rows work edge st. as follows:
With yarn held in front, slip first stitch of row as if to purl through the back loop, bring yarn to back, ready to knit second stitch; work as instructed by pattern until 1 stitch remains in row, purl the last stitch.

Hello,
Stitches are always slipped purlwise. For the edge st slip the 1st st of your row purlwise with yarn in front, then place working yarn behind to work the next knit st. Working yarn will "wrap" the edge st.

I love this pattern! Can't wait to make it for my niece's daughter. I have a question about the edge stitch. I understand what to do with the 1st st on the right side and the last stitch on the wrong side, but I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be doing with the last st on the right side and the 1st stitch on the wrong side. I've just been knitting them, but something doesn't look quite right.

Just to clarify..., I made the cowl before I made the hat. The way the instructions read, I ended up with the edge stitch on only one side of the cowl. Now that I've started the hat, the instructions make perfect sense, so if I had done the hat 1st, I would've realized what to do to make the edge stitches on both edges of the cowl.

BTW, I love the way it's turning out and it's a super quick knit - love it!

I ordered this online. It also took me to Paypal and was in French. I just changed the country of origin from France to Canada, the screen refreshed and then it was in English. I am sending the directions to my mom, an avid knitter. The cutest picture and pattern I have seen in awhile. The PDF file was in colour and in English. Thanks.

It's not me :)) this is Craftsy that handles in this way.You don't need a Paypal account, just click the Paypal button when you go through the checkout and look for the link to pay with your credit card.

regards,
Katy

Based on all the comments I won't be ordering this pattern. I don't speak or read French. Too bad - cute hat!

Hi,

this pattern is written in English. There is also a french version of the pattern, but it isn't available on Craftsy. You download the pattern in English.

After purchasing this pattern, I found I was unable to open the file. Immediately, I wrote to Katy, the Indie Designer, and I'm thrilled to report that within less than an hour, Katy was efficient and kind enough to send me a PDF file! Now that's incredible service!!! I will be following Katy in the future as I know she makes customer service a high priority! Thanks so much, Katy!!!
