Pattern Description:

Pattern for a basic close-fitting beanie in 7 sizes, to fit a newborn baby right up to adult size, plus instructions to make it into either a dog or a cat hat.
There are 2 styles of ears for the dog, 3 ideas for cat faces, and different sizes of pattern for noses and ears to fit the size of beanie you are making. Also a choice of 2 simple hem styles.

This is a written pattern for a hat made on 2 needles with a back seam.
The basic hat pattern is the same for either the cat or the dog and can also be used as a simple stocking stitch beanie pattern without the animal features.

Gauge:

21 sts, 28 rows to 10 cm in stocking stitch on 4 mm (US 6) needles, using 8 ply /DK yarn

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • to fit head sizes: 35 cm, 38 cm, 43 cm, 47 cm, 50 cm, 55 cm, 59 cm

Materials:

  • DK/8 ply yarn 35 - 80 gms (depending on size) in main colour
  • Dog: 10 - 15 gms of contrast colour 8 ply/DK for ears, 5 gms brown or black 8 ply/DK for nose and eyes, Small amount of dacron toy filling for nose, Optional: (safe only for over 3 yrs) - sew-on "joggle" toy eyes size 15 - 20 mm
  • Cat: Extra 10 - 15 gms of main colour 8 ply/DK for ears, Small amount of black 8 ply/DK for nose and whiskers, Small amount of 8 ply/DK for eyes, Optional: (safe only for over 3 yrs) - sew-on "joggle" toy eyes size 12 - 20 mm, Optional: 5 gms 8 ply/DK for bow

You Will Also Need:

  • 1 pair 4 mm (US 6) needles
  • 1 pair 3.25 mm (US 3) needles
