The sideways construction, while simple, will hold your interest with all the twists and turns along the way. This shawl features the beautiful Cabernet Cable, modern, yet classic at the same time.


Fingering weight: 870 yds / 800 m
DK weight yarn: 950 yds / 870 m

Fingering weight yarn:
24 stitches and 44 rows / 4" in garter stitch before blocking on US 4/3.5mm straight or 24" circular needle(s)

DK weight yarn:
20 stitches and 40 rows / 4" in garter stitch before blocking on US 6/4mm straight or 24" circular needle(s)

Adjust needle size as necessary to obtain correct gauge. (Exact gauge is not crucial for this project, the important thing is that you like the finished fabric.)

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • M (using fingering weight yarns)
  • L (using DK weight yarns)
  • wingspan: about 50 (54)" / 127 (137)cm
  • length: about 60 (68)" / 152 (173)cm
  • depth: 16.5 (18)" / 42 (46) cm


  • (size M) US 4/3.5 mm 24" circular needles
  • (size L) US 6/4.00 mm 24" circular needles

You Will Also Need:

  • 2 cable needles (alternatively 1 cable needle and 1 DPN or locking stitch marker)
  • 2 stitch marhers
  • tapestry needle for weaving ends
  • pins for blocking

Preferred Brand/Yarn:

Fingering or DK merino (wool) yarn with great stitch definition.
