Basic Skills Necessary:

  • knit
  • purl
  • work cables with or without a cable needle
  • read charts
  • work provisional cast on using scrap yarn and a crochet hook (link to tutorial included in pattern).

Pattern Description:

Bregdan is worked end to end and grafted to make a headband style hat, making it easy to swatch as you go. Worked at a fairly tight gauge and cabled, the resulting dense fabric will keep your ears warm even on a cold windy day. The open back is nice for those with long hair who want to have their hair up and still be warm, and also looks cute over short hair.

4.5 sts and 6 rows in 1 inch. Gauge is given over a small area because it is easy to measure after working the chart for 10 rows or so.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • To fit 21" head, easily customized as explained in the pattern.

  • 1 skein (115 yards/100g) of Aran weight yarn (Shown in Yarn Love Charlotte Bronte Aran)
  • US3/3.25mm circular or straight needles or size to get gauge
  • similarly sized crochet hook for provisional cast on
