Pattern Description:

Twined knitting

Mittens are knit using an old Scandinavian technique called 2-end knitting (Tvaandsstickning). This method will keep these mittens more wind resistant and surprisingly soft. The trim work is a simple double knitting technique - super easy and fun.

There are only 2 kinds of knitted mittens that are practical and will keep the snow from penetrating the mittens - felted mittens an twined mittens.

4.75 sts = 1" in St st (19 sts = 10cm)
6 sts = 1" in twining method (24 sts = 10cm)

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • 4 sizes to choose from - toddler to large adult
  • toddler: 4 1/4" circumference x 5 1/2" l
  • child: 5 1/4" circumference x 6 1/2" l
  • small adult: 6 1/4" circumference x 8" l
  • adult: 7 1/4" circumference x 9 1/2" l


  • 90 (100, 125, 150) yds of worsted wool
  • US 9 dpn's
