Pattern Description:

The challenge was to create a curved shawl knit sideways so it could incorporate the lovely lace motif I had encountered when I made the Amaranth Headband. The shawl uses 1 full skein for the main color, and less than half of the lace color. This shawl is knit sideways from one point increasing toward the widest part at center, and then decreasing again toward the opposite point. This is a weight-based pattern in order to get the most out of the main color skein of yarn.

Gauge:

Gauge
23 sts x 28 rows = 4" / 10 cm in
Stockinette stitch, using US 4 / 3.5mm
needles
19 sts x 22 rows = 3.5" / 9 cm in Lace
pattern, using US 4 / 3.5mm needles

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Width at center 12"/ 31 cm
  • Wingspan is 68" / 173 cm (adjustable)

Materials:

  • 1 pair of size US 4 / 3.5mm knitting needles, or size to obtain gauge
  • scrap yarn for liefelines (optional)
  • Rosy Green Wool, Cheeky Merino Joy (100% Organic Superwash Merino), 100g, 350 yd / 320 m Main Color (MC): 1 skein, Isar Pebble #062 Lace Color (LC): 0.75 skein, Ruby #050

You Will Also Need:

  • 4 stitch markers
  • 1 removable stitch marker
  • tapestry needle to weave in the ends

Suggested yarn:

600 yards of Sport weight
