Pattern Description:

This slouchy stocking cap in multiple sizes knits up quickly in DK/light worsted yarn for a stylishly warm answer to mid-winter cold. The hat brim is worked in reversible herringbone rib and can be doubled back if desired; the pattern continues with a simple linear detail through the body. For maximum slouch, choose a very softly spun yarn and/or one that blends silky, relaxed fibers with wool. For snug fit, go down one size.
Substituting yarn and/or needles may result in an overall variation in size.

Gauge:

21 sts and 30 rows = 4 inches in stockinette on larger needle (knit flat; unblocked)

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • 11(13.5, 16)[18.5, 21.5, 23.5) inches in circumference (unstretched) to fit heads measuring up to 15(17.5, 20)[22, 24.5, 27] inches around Note: child/youth sizes appear in (parens) while adult sizes appear in [brackets]

Materials:

  • 125(150, 200)[225, 250, 275] yards of any soft DK/light worsted yarn that knits to pattern gauge
  • Needles: size 6US (4.0mm) circular needles and DPNs for body (or size to obtain correct gauge) size 5US (3.75mm) circular needle for brim (or one size smaller than body needle)

275 yards of DK weight
