I've seen lots of great patterns for ribbons in tons of different mediums, but none in wire - so I decided to write one :)
This is an easy wire project to create a lasting 'ribbon' in wire. Most of the bending can be done with just your fingers. Artistic wire seems to have been made for this project - It's easy to bend, and it comes in lots of great colors to match just about any awareness ribbon you'd like to create.
I include a great link at the end of the tutorial to an extensive list of awareness ribbons colors and what they represent.
This tutorial is 20 pages with 51 steps that covers 2 ways to create the pendant. There is 70 clear crisp photos and detailed directions for both the visual and instructional learner.

What inspires me??? Hmmm..... Everything!!..... I'm not being cheeky, everything seems to inspire me - most days' designs and ideas pop into my head, and I'm not fully aware of what triggered them. I keep notepads everywhere, and have even had to pull my car out of traffic, to jot down design ideas before they evaporate. Though after cutting off a Sheriff last year, I am more careful to look before I zip out of traffic. I was so intent on jotting down my thoughts, I didn't realize I was holding up a "wait a minute finger" to a cop, until he tapped on the window a second time. I will admit the look on his face; after I babbled for 5 minutes to explain myself, was priceless. Thinking of him walking away, muttering and shaking his head, still makes me smile.
I have always had a love of creating in one form or another--I'd kill for the telephone wire pieces I made back when I was 10 or 12yrs old!!! Since then I have tried silk screen printing (had a 'real job' at that for 2 yrs); furniture making, leather work, whip braiding, pottery on a wheel, wood carving, stamp carving, and finally landing on wire jewelry. I had been 'playing' around with beads in my spare time for many, many years. A dear friend introduced me to wirework in 1988 after a car accident ended my career as a graphic artist. I fell head over heels in love with wire, and though I play with other jewelry mediums from time to time, I always come back to wire.
My favorite quote, from Chuck Palahniuk - "The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will"; isn't just a catchy tagline either. I want what I make to last a lifetime, and I want to teach people to do the same. I always work with that in the back of my mind.
Sometimes I miss the normal perks that come with a 'regular job' - you know - vacations, sick days, dental - but only sometimes. When I start to miss them, I just remind myself of the really great perks I do have - like making my own hours, playing with pretty shiny things all day, and working in my jammies if I want too :D
