(5) Name: 'Jewelry : Calla

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • peyote stitch

Pattern Description:

Make a bouquet of these adorable calla lily-like components. You need to be comfortable with peyote stitch, and should be able to work with tight tension, which is required to prevent droop!

I like using a metallic colour for the accent (around the open edges), and something sweet for the main colour. I enjoy the way gilt-lined beads contrast with metallics, but there's no right or wrong here.

Start by making the bail/loop, change colour to continue making the bloom, add stamens if desired, and add a contrasting plain or zig-zag edging.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Each calla is less than an inch without the bail loop

  • Japanese size 11 seed beads in 3 colours, 2 for flower, 1 for stem
  • accent beads for stamens (optional)
  • beading needle
  • beading thread

You Will Also Need:

  • scissors
  • beading surface
  • thread conditioner (optional)
  • good lighting
  • magnifiers!
