Skill Level:

small skill level requirement Beginner

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Crochet a chain (pictures and written instructions are given for crocheting over buttons and beads); basic sewing skills to thread buttons and beads and finish the necklace; basic jewelry-making skills (make a simple wire wrapped loop, open and close jump rings and add a clasp).

Pattern Description:

Mix together your favourite buttons and seed beads, then string and crochet them into a funky necklace using a hank of embroidery thread. Finish with simple wire wraps and a clasp. The necklace is light-weight and very comfortable to wear.

This is an easy pattern to follow, with 16 photos and clear written instructions, you only need very basic crochet skills and basic jewelry-making skills. I've taught this necklace pattern in a class, and also to friends, several of whom were novice crocheters. I've included instructions on how to get the right length for you too.

Keep your colour range simple, like my examples, or throw caution to the wind and go for all colours of the rainbow. You can also wear several at once for a full-on craft statement!
