Labor Day, established as a way to recognize the contributions of Labor Unions to the prosperity of their country, closes out the summer, and welcomes the autumn. When I was a kid, Labor Day meant back-to-school time, and my favorite part of getting ready for school was shopping for school supplies to put in my pencil box. The smell of new pencils, crayons, and glue meant a fresh start to the school year, and new challenges ahead!

Hi, I'm Katie Canavan, a textile artist and designer who lives & works in Los Angeles. After watching my mom make quilts, I took a quilting class at age 8. The year was 1992 and I haven't stopped sewing since. I went to Michigan State University to study Acting & Costume Design, and I taught all my friends and roommates how to knit. I love to take something old - whether a bookcase or a vintage sheet - and give it new life. I'm inspired by nature & the nostalgic and I'm completely obsessed with color.
