Hand Embroidery

Skill Level:

medium skill level requirement Intermediate

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Some experience in surface embroidery is recommended

Pattern Description:

The design for this panel, was inspired by an old Hungarian platter decorated with a fabulous bird surrounded by a floral wreath. I loved the bird and the fanciful flowers which I thought would be perfect for crewel embroidery.

The embroidery is worked in bright cheerful colours using a variety of my favourite crewelwork stitches to create texture.
I used Cascade House shaded crewel wool - conversion to Appleton is included.

Full size embroidery design.

Easy to follow step-by-step instructions.

Clear diagrams and photographs.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • The embroidered panel measures 15cm x 20cm wide (6" x 8").

  • 30cm (12") square of ivory 45-count linen (firmly woven cotton can be used)
  • No. 4 crewel needle
  • 11 shades of fine crewel wool

You Will Also Need:

  • 22cm (9") good quality embroidery hoop, inner ring bound
  • Sharp pencil or fine permanent pen
