Hand Embroidery

Skill Level:

small skill level requirement Beginner

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • separate embroidery floss
  • mount fabric into an embroidery hoop
  • thread a needle
  • transfer image from paper onto fabric

Pattern Description:

Chameleons are truly amazing animals. Not only do they have the ability to blend in with their environments eerily well, but their eyes, feet, and tongues move in a truly alien fashion. This fanciful specimen was loosely based on the bright colors of a Panther Chameleon, but it would be just as fun to pick a fabric with a bold pattern and use that as a guide for your embroidery.

This chameleon pattern is 9 pages long and includes details on colors and stitches used in the example embroidery. It also has two views of the pattern itself: the original direction and a reversed direction, making it easy to choose which way you want the design to be oriented regardless of which transfer method you prefer. Also included are instructions on all of the stitches used in the sample.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • 9" wide x 5" tall, but it can easily be scaled up or down with a computer or copier

  • fabric (plain cotton is recommended)
  • transfer pencil, chalk, or light and a regular marking pencil to transfer the pattern from paper onto fabric
  • embroidery floss- sample colors are listed, but use whatever you like (or already have!)
  • embroidery hoop
  • embroidery needle
  • sharp scissors
