This pattern is based on an anatomical drawing by Joulien Bougle from 1899, making it a Victorian era illustration.
It uses three colors of embroidery floss and is stitched with stem stitch throughout.
The pattern is 6 pages with helpful embroidery hints, scaled down illustration for reference, and full-size color and individual black-and-white charts that can be traced or printed directly onto your fabric using a transfer method such as transfer-eze.
I'm currently finishing my Ph.D. in biochemistry and have turned to needlework as a way of channeling science inspiration into art. This is my second pattern in a continuing series of needlework patterns based on Joulien Bougle's illustrations.
See my blog post for additional information and links to a tutorial on how to stem stitch and how to use a printable pattern transfer method such as transfer-eze.
