I'm a mom, a wife, a writer, a crocheter, a kisser of boo-boos, and a lover of touchable, colorful art. My daughter, Little Miss, is one of the big reasons I got into amigurimi crochet. After making afghans (and just about everything else) for more than 15 years -- I fell in love with a baby girl and have been making dolls to delight her ever since. She is my muse and my inspiration.
My original amigurumi designs are 100% hand made with the same quality and attention to detail that I would want for my own daughter. And, each stitch I hook in each piece I make holds a story. You'll find some of the stories right in the item listings on my shop -- for instance, did you know that the tooth fairy turns stale gumdrops into colorful mice so people won't accidentally have dental emergencies?
But, it is my hope that my creations' best stories are yet to be unlocked by the people who eventually receive them.
I want to thank you for taking a few minutes to learn a little more about me and my work, and I hope you'll find something in my shop that starts a special story for you.
Best wishes, Karla (The Itsy Bitsy Spider)
These little amigurumi lanterns are based on the paper lanterns seen so often in Japan. The round red lantern is decorated with three cherry blossoms and the tall white lantern features the kanji character for "strength."
The lanterns were designed to be just the right size for many collectible dolls, including Blythe and Pullip. A finer weight yarn and smaller gauge crochet hook can be substituted to make the lanterns for smaller Lati or Pukipuki dolls.
In addition to being a fun introduction to amigurumi crochet techniques, this pattern shows you how to make two important basic amigurumi shapes -- the sphere and the elongated sphere. Once mastered, these two shapes can be expanded to create many different amigurumi characters!
