Basic Skills Necessary:

  • single crochet
  • half double crochet
  • increase
  • decrease
  • sew parts together
  • crochet in the round

Pattern Description:

When hip local yarn shop StashLocal asked me and Jill to dream up a window display made entirely of yarn, we pictured a breezy Pacific Northwest fiber wonderland where darling alpacas and blackface sheep frolicked over every hill. These two crocheted alpacas bounded across the pasture and right into our hearts, so we had to share them with you.

This pattern teaches you to make plushies in any size by holding yarn single or double and using the appropriate sized hook. You can go as big or as small as possible!

The pictured small alpaca is made by holding the yarn single and using a smaller hook. The large alpaca is made by holding the yarn double and using a larger hook. We encourage you to experiment with this technique in any pattern where fit isn't a factor.

Sizes: 18 and 30 inches tall.

Materials: Any yarn weight and the appropriate hook will work for this project. For DK weight yarn you'll need about 600 yards for the small and 1700 yards for the jumbo alpaca. You'll also need stuffing, eyes, a nose, a tapestry needle and some pink blush.
