Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Chain stitch (ch). Slip stitch (sl st). Single crochet (sc). Double crochet (dc). Reverse single crochet (rsc).

Pattern Description:

Make a colorful retro poncho in warm Fall colors! Although this poncho uses traditional granny squares, it gets a "painted" look by working with 3 strands of fingering weight yarn and changing 1 color every 2-3 rounds.

US crochet terminology.


4 rnds = 3" (8 cm), 3 sets of 3 dc = 3" (8 cm)

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • One size fits most. Poncho measures about 25" (63.5 cm) along center front, falling about 30" (76 cm) from shoulder (excluding fringe), and is about 32" (81 cm) wide.


  • Fingering weight yarn, such as Palette by Knit Picks (www.knitpicks.com), approx. 750 yards (686 meters) total. The sample shown uses approximately 125 yards (114 meters) of ea of the following colors: Yellow, Gold, Orange, Dark Orange, Red, and Green
  • Crochet hook size I-9 U.S. (5.5 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge
