Santa's Washing

from CatBird Studios
(4) Name: 'Crocheting : Santa's Washing
Santa's Washing Opening in long johns
Santa's Washing Santa's Washing over a mantel

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Basic crochet stitches

Pattern Description:

After a hard night of traveling the world to deliver presents, Santa's outfit needs to be washed and hung to dry. This project makes a wonderful banner to hang from a mantel or across a doorway to help celebrate the Christmas season.

Depending on the yarn you use, the banner can be small to very small. This pattern is easy to make but is not one you can whip together without thinking a bit. It could be made by a beginning crocheter but they'll need to pay careful attention to the details.

Included are instructions for a jacket, trousers, long johns, mittens, scarf (plain and striped), hat, and socks. Most of the pieces are made flat with only the mitten thumbs and long john trouser top made in the round. Hopefully this will make it easier to make if you are using thin yarn or embroidery thread. It may take a bit longer this way but it also gives you the freedom to use any weight yarn or thread.

Instructions included for special stitches, including the foundation single crochet.

This pattern can be done using any yarn weight, just make sure you adjust the yarn/thread size used for the socks, mittens, and scarf so they are not out of proportion.

For the jacket cuffs/edging, pants cuffs, and hat brim, you can substitute some white fun fur instead of the plain white yarn.
