In crocheting the bottom on a round or row, when you say to crochet so many hdc in the next so many stitches then 2 hdc in the same. . .I believe you mean: 1 hdc in each of the next 2 (or 3 or 4 or 5, etc depending on row) then 2 hdc in the next hdc.. Please clarify. . . thanks!

Yes, that's correct. You work 2 hdc in the same(Next) for the increases.

It will depend on what size you plan on making, but the largest size uses approx 7oz of worsted weight working with doubled stranded.

Thanks very much for the pattern. I downloaded it on my iPad by tapping on 'Add digital pattern to cart', then tapping on 'Add to my patterns'. Next I tapped on the download arrow underneath the photo of the pattern and tapped 'ok'. When the pattern came up I tapped the pattern then chose 'Open in iBooks'. A bit tortuous but it worked, hope this helps people

I downloaded a pattern on here, and I can't read it. I understand the abbreviations individually, but not when it is a long run on of abbreviations. The pattern I downloaded just jumps in with hdc which is a half double stitch...but it doesn't say how many chains to do at the beginning. You cant to a hdc without chain stitches. I love the way the pattern looks, and I would love to do it, but it all looks like hieroglyphs to me. Can you help my please?
When the pattern says, "Rnd 1: 8 hdc, join to 1st st, ch 1 (8)" I know what hdc means...rnd means round maybe (meaning the first circle?), and st is stitch and ch is chain....but what does it all mean together? Thanks so much!!

Joyful Yarns on craftsy.com
Joyful Yarns  August 3, 2014
Flag as inappropriate

This is worked in the round, so the stitches are worked into the first chain of a ch2, or a magic circle.

The abbreviations list is at the beginning of the pattern to refer to if you have trouble with the common crochet abbreviations.

Joyful Yarns on craftsy.com
Joyful Yarns  August 3, 2014
Flag as inappropriate

The first line of the pattern instructs to ch3 and work in the last chain (I responded in error above). OR you can use a magic circle to work the stitches into.

Joyful Yarns on craftsy.com
Joyful Yarns  August 3, 2014
Flag as inappropriate

In Round 1 above, you will work 8 hdc into the last of the beginning ch3, OR in a magic circle. Then slip stitch join to the 1st hdc, then chain 1. Then you will proceed with Round 2.

Make sure you are switching hook sizes as indicated in the pattern. The larger size hook is only used for the moss stitch rows!

Hi! The amount of yarn needed will vary depending on the size you choose to make. For the basket in the picture, I made the largest size and it took about 2/3 skein of RedHeart Super Saver for the ecru color. I would suggest 7-8 oz total of worsted weight/aran weight yarn for the largest size.

Moss stitch is the repeat pattern in the center rounds where you ch1 and hdc. The next round you will work the hdc into the ch1 sp from the previous round and ch1 to skip over the hdc from the previous round. If you have any further problems, please contact me here or at my Facebook page, and I can help you!

I downloaded the pattern and wonder what the * stands for in the pattern details? It starts at the Round 3 and I am just making sure it am doing all correct. On the hdc do we skip a stict or 2 or go strait in to the first available stitch? I was taught the hdc starts in the 3rd stitch over... is this right??

Joyful Yarns on craftsy.com
Joyful Yarns  January 23, 2014

The * is the repeat, so you would repeat the instructions between the *'s.

This is worked in the round, so you dont necessarily follow the same rules for working in the 'x' st after making a turn chain like when working flat and turning the work. The chain in this pattern is part of the stitch pattern to create the texture.
