Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Chain st (ch), Slip st (sl st), Single crochet (sc).
  • Basic embroidery skills

Pattern Description:

Perfect for a Thanksgiving hostess gift, these potholders are made double thick to protect hands and counter tops. Each potholder is made in two pieces and then crocheted together while working the border. The "veins" are embroidered afterwards with a thinner yarn.

US crochet terminology.


12 sc = 4", 10 rows sc = 4" (10cm)

  • 10" (25.5cm) long x 6" (15cm) wide


  • Lion Brand Kitchen Cotton in the following colors and amounts: Gold Leaf Potholder: 120yds (110m) Cornmeal #257, 10yds (9m) Maize #186; Red Leaf Potholder: 120yds (110m) Hot Pepper #113
  • About 10yds (9 m) of dark brown fine cotton yarn for embroidering leaf details
  • Crochet hook size I-9 (5.5mm) or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Yarn needle
