This design was suggested by a client back in 2008. She commissioned me to make her a spring tea cozy.
Spring to me means Daffodils as they are usually the first flowers to bloom after the long cold winter.
Did you know that they are the official flower of City of Hope? (cancer center)
Ever since I had a friend in elementary school who was treated there and I learned this tidbit of information, this has been my favorite flower.
At the time I was designing this pattern I just learned the Tunisian (afghan) stitch from Teresa aka Crochet Geek on Youtube. I was a Tunisian crochet mad woman. I wanted to make everything using it.
This tea pot cozy is fr a long tea pot instead of the common stout ones.
You will be making two sides - a front and a back. The tie the cozy to the pot you can either use yarn or because I had it at the time, ribbon.
For the top I decided to make a little hat with removable daffodils. The Daffodils are not my pattern and the link to a couple of choices are included in the pattern. I added little pipe cleaners to flowers so they could easier be added or removed from the hat.
The flower applique on the side is from a book I had at the time. You can find my pattern which was inspired by this one at momwithahook.blogspot.com/2012/07/freecrochetflowerpattern.html
I hope you enjoy making it. You are free to alter this pattern in any way you wish. Make it your own.
I do not have a gauge for this as I didn't make gauge swatches back in 2008.
It is important for you to make a gauge. Make a square in the Tunisian Knit Stitch in the yarn you choose. Measure a 4" x 4" square to see how many stitches you get to an inch.
Measure your tea pot around - this is how big you need to make your cozy.
I always enjoyed crafts growing up but it wasn't until 1999 that I really started to get obsessed with all things craft.
I first learned to crochet, then I learned knitting and recently I fell in love with spinning on a drop spindle.
