Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Starting a Hat with Slip Stitches
  • Crochet in-the-round

Pattern Description:

The Open Weave c1 Beanie (Complication #1)

A rework of The Open Weave pattern. A slightly different weave is achieved on the 3-wide ribs and a super textured hat is created with the addition of the single, off-center ribs.


Diameter Method - It is recommended that the diameter of the working piece meets the values listed in the pattern for rounds 3 through 8.

Following this gauge will allow you to create a Medium beanie. Make sure to press the working piece flat with a ruler and measure the longest distance across through the center.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Adult Medium (22" circumference) - Optional rounds and sizing suggestions for Large and Small hats are provided


  • Worsted Weight Yarn - 4 - Medium
  • Wool or other animal fibers that allow for blocking - Highly Recommended

You Will Also Need:

  • Tapestry Needle and Ruler
  • Crochet Hook H/8 - 5.0 mm OR as needed to meet gauge

Suggested yarn:

165 yards of Worsted weight
