Great pattern! I used a double strand to make the bag, and it looks really good. It is a large bag!

Love this started to make last night almost finished bottom when I realized it says dc in to one stitch. I was using the half double crochet. I just wanted to be sure this was correct before I rip again. I never saw this done before the thinking it should all be hdc through whole bottom wondering the reason behind increase s being different. Thank you for this wonderful bag going on vacation cannot wait to finish

i made this for a friend for Christmas because she lives in hot weather, so a sweater or scarf wouldn't do. she uses it as a gym bag as well as for the beach!

Hi! Imade thebagand itturned out great but itisreally big. I would like to make it a little smaller. What is the pattern repeat for the squares? Will it turn out right if I make fewer rows in the base? Thanks

Yes, it will definitely work out if you make fewer rows in the base. Just be sure that your base stitch count is divisible by 6 as that is the number of stitches in the pattern repeat.

I feel a little silly, but I don't understand the beginning part? I don't really know how to read patterns that well, I've mostly taught myself from a book from wamart and youtube. Is there anyway to get a bit more detailed directions on how to start, I think once I can get a couple rounds going I can go from there, but after I made the magic circle, I'm pretty lost. Do I chain 2 to make my hdc, or do I just start making a hdc, and once I made 8 (if I chain 2, does that count as a hdc or not?) how exactly do I progress to the next row? Do I slip stich to join the round? Never worked in rounds before, that might be my issue... Please help. I want to make this for a friend...

Okay, figured it out, watched some videos on youtube about continuous circles. Now I don't understand why is 42-45 not joined?

Rounds 42-45 are not joined in order to create a more seamless look. You can join those rounds if you prefer though - the pattern will work both ways. Just skip the part that says, "After round 45 is complete..." and follow the instructions for the straps.

Why not join at row 42 & 43? I don't get it

You can join those rounds if you like. I don't love the look of beginning chains when crocheting in the round so I try to avoid joining and work in a continuous round when possible. It won't change the outcome very much if you choose to join those rounds....I was just being picky!

Hello Micah,

The ladies at my church are making market bags to sell so that we can support the effort of a family in Alberta, Canada, who is fostering as many native children as they can who have been removed from their homes on the reserve. These children have been removed due to abuse and neglect, and many of them are dealing with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome as well. All the money we get for our bags will go directly to this family. NO MONEY will go to our church or our ladies who worked to make the bags. All our time and materials are our donation. The cost of living in northern Alberta, near the Indian reserves, is very high and they need many diapers and formula, etc.

Would you be willing to let us sell bags made from your pattern for the Summer Squares Beach Tote in the interest of helping this family also? We are more than willing to credit you for the pattern/design however you would desire. Thank you for your consideration. Please respond to me at megcwheeler(at)hotmail(dot)com.

Hopefully,
Meg Wheeler

Thanks for the pattern. I made this to take on a cruise so that I wouldn't have to bring my big canvas bag. So easy to pack, takes up no space and holds SO much. I'll be making two more, one for each of our grown daughters who are cruising with us in Feb.

Thanks for the pattern. I am making it for use as a market bag at the farmer's market. I've posted a couple pictures in my project area. Will upload more when I finish the project - the bag is finished (pictures posted) but the embellishments are still in the works.

You have to add it to your pattern cart, then add it to your library. Then you'll find it under "your account".
