Mottistone Scarf

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Chain, Double Crochet: DC Single Crochet: SC Backward Post Double Crochet: BPDC Forward Post Double Crochet: FPDC

Pattern Description:

The Mottistone is a luxuriously thick scarf, suitable for both men and women. Although it is a simple pattern it results in a beautifully textured item that many will admire. It is named after the often windswept but picturesque Mottistone Down on the Isle of Wight where its warmth and comfort would be appreciated.

The length can be easily adjusted by crocheting a shorter foundation chain and once you have worked the first couple of rows the scarf grows remarkably quickly.

Try a pure wool yarn in deep autumnal colours for a truly scrumptious feel of cosiness.

Gauge is not essential on this garment. In fact, why not experiment? Try a finer hook and yarn (any good quality Double Knitting/light worsted yarn would be a good choice) to produce a lighter weight scarf more suitable for spring perhaps or use the double knit yarn and a larger hook for a looser pattern.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Using stitch counts as stated will produce a finished scarf measuring approximately 208cms (82 inches) in length and 23cms (9 inches) wide.

  • 100g (214 yards) of worsted weight yarn (pictured example made in Patons Aran with wool, shade 01005) Size 4.50 crochet hook (US G), Wool needle for finishing

Suggested yarn:

214 yards of Worsted weight

Preferred Brand/Yarn:

Any Good Quality Aran/Worsted Weight Yarn
