Easy Crochet Purse fpdc version with D-shaped handles

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Basic crochet stitches: ch, sc, hdc, dc
  • Reading simple crochet patterns

Pattern Description:

This project is designed to be simple and quick, either for yourself or to make for a gift.

Two stitch options are provided:
Half Double Crochet (hdc): simple and basic
Front Post Double Crochet (fpdc): more advanced; great 3-D effect

Start by crocheting around the purse handles, then work downward with increases near the handles. Purse can be made wider by adding more increases and longer by adding more rows.

Two identical pieces are made then sewn together at the sides and bottom. No lining is required due to the firm and dense nature of the hdc and fpdc stitches.

Have fun embellishing your purse with crochet or silk flowers, buttons, or jewelry!

Gauge:

18 hdc and 12 rows = 4" (10 cm)

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Finished size: 10" wide x 10" high (below handles)

Materials:

  • Worsted weight yarn: 350 yds (320 m)
  • Crochet hook US F (3.75 mm) or size to obtain gauge
  • 2 D-shaped or round purse handles with 5" wide opening
  • Yarn needle for weaving tails
