About the designer

Both my grandmothers taught me how to crochet when I was a child. In the fall of 2010, I got involved with crocheting again and it has quickly become a passion. I love creating patterns!

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • single crochet
  • double crochet
  • magic ring
  • reverse single crochet (optional)

Pattern Description:

This is a PDF pattern for THREE very different sun hats! The different versions for the brim include ruffled, wavy, and an elegant straight brim. There are also multiple options for edgings on the brim. Try it with or without a ribbon. The top of the hat has a very open V-stitch which makes it light enough for summer. It's a very versatile pattern with endless possibilities!


17 stitches and 18 rows in sc = 4" x 4" (10 cm x 10 cm) with 5 mm hook OR
15 stitches and 7 rows in dc = 4" x 4" (10 cm x 10 cm) with 6 mm hook OR

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • 0-3 months ~ 12-14" circumference
  • 3-6 months ~ 14-16" circumference
  • 6-12 months ~ 16-18" circumference
  • toddler ~ 17-19" circumference
  • child ~ 18-20" circumference
  • teen/adult ~ 20-22" circumference
  • large adult ~ 22-24" circumference


  • 6 oz or less of worsted weight cotton yarn
  • "J" (6 mm) crochet hook
