Natalie Chanin is owner and designer of the American lifestyle brand Alabama Chanin and author of the Alabama Studio Book Series, including Alabama Stitch Book (STC - February 2008), Alabama Studio Style (STC - March 2010) and Alabama Studio Sewing + Design (STC - Spring 2012). Her designs for hand-sewn garments and home furnishings are constructed using traditional quilting and embroidery techniques have been lauded for both their beauty and sustainability.

Alabama Chanin products are made from 100% certified organic cotton in combination with recycled materials by artisans located in and around Florence, Alabama. Her designs have earned accolades as a finalist for the Cooper Hewitt National Design Award for Fashion in 2005.

Natalie is a member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America and was one of the designers for Cooper Hewitt Global Triennial - Why Design Now? in 2010. In 2011, Alabama Chanin launched line of etched ceramic plates and home textiles with HEATH Ceramics.

Natalie has a degree in Environmental Design from North Carolina State University and travels the world to lecture on slow design, sustainability, and cultural preservation. She works from her home in Florence, Alabama, simultaneously as designer, manufacturer, stylist, filmmaker, mother, artisan, cook and collector of stories.
