Meet custom drapery expert and returning Craftsy instructor Susan Woodcock. Susan shares a sneak peek of the custom drapery techniques you'll learn in class and discusses considerations for selecting the best type of lining (or linings) for your fabric.
Compare various types of interlinings, which add valuable insulation and structure to your window treatments. Susan explains how interlinings differ from garment fabrics, shares pros and cons of varying types, and helps you select an interlining that will work best for your projects.
Discover ways to combine linings and interlinings to create an ideal insulation, light diffusion and drape for your projects. Join layers, with or without a serger, and learn high-end techniques like interlocking layers by hand and the French blackout style.
Gain an overview of common interfacings and stabilizers, as well as the best ways to adhere and incorporate them into your designs. Next, discover ways to use buckram, which can help you master crisp, sophisticated pleats.
Help your window treatments stay in place and drape neatly with the use of weights. Learn about the benefits of square, rounded, triangular and sausage-bead varieties, as well as how to find lead or lead-free types. You'll also gain techniques for hiding weights behind your fabric.
Mounting window treatments onto boards can seem like a complex process, but Susan shows you how to create a professional product with ease. Susan explains where to find boards and what size or sizes you'll need. Next, learn what tools and materials you'll need before securing your valance.
Learn a second method for securing valances to boards, which consists of securing the board and fabric with Velcro strips. Susan shows you how to cover the board and measure and sew the banding onto your valance. Next, learn some fun industry secrets that help prevent flaring.
Put the finishing touches onto your custom-made draperies using Susan's professional techniques. Learn when to use pins or clips to secure your treatments onto rings, hang your curtains neatly and evenly and dress your draperies with tailored, flowing, casual or formal looks.
