with Lynda Maynard
Go inside Vogue Patterns headquarters to gain designer insight before you achieve the chic lines and high-end finish of a Badgley Mischka dress with couture sewing expert Lynda Maynard. First, use a ponte knit to sew the included Badgley Mischka V1399 pattern right out of the envelope for a dress with a soft rolled collar, delicate cap sleeves, beautiful princess seams, flattering peplum, full Bemberg lining, invisible zipper and more. Then, discover how to underline and interface a silk dupioni version of the dress. You'll remove the collar, lower the neckline, add a softly rounded cap sleeve, shape the peplum with horsehair braid, sculpt the princess seams with horsehair boning and finish the dress with a padded hem. Keep your wardrobe in style and your sewing skills sharp as you make designer garments using advanced dressmaking techniques.
Take a peek inside Vogue Patterns HQ and learn more about the Badgley Mischka dress. Then meet your instructor, Lynda Maynard, and get started! Lynda discusses the importance of making a fitting muslin and goes over how to prep your pattern pieces, then sews the skirt pieces.
Learn how to sew the flirty peplum by adding lining, topstitching, clipping the curves and attaching it to the skirt. Then you'll attach the skirt to bodice and the side panels to the front, grading and topstitching seams as you go.
Now it's time to sew and attach the lining, reinforcing it at the back slit. Lynda demonstrates how to pin the lining to the dress, then sew the armholes and shoulder seams. Once the collar is attached, your dress is nearly finished!
Finish up your ponte dress along with Lynda. She walks you through installing the invisible zipper, completing the collar and hem and tacking down the lining. Just add pretty shoes and a dinner reservation and you're ready to go out on the town!
A lustrous silk dupioni version of the Badgley Mischka dress includes a softened shoulder, padded hem and lowered neckline. Horsehair braid gives the peplum sass and the princess seams a smooth structure. Lynda explains how to alter your pattern pieces, add underlining and apply the horsehair braid.
Lynda demonstrates how to prepare and attach the lining, understitch the neckline and insert the hand-picked zipper. For added pizzazz, consider adding tiny beads next to the zipper and princess seams. Finish with a padded hem that helps the dress drape and flow beautifully when you wear it at your next special occasion.
"This class is not for beginners. But if you have some skills and want to learn some very professional techniques from a very professional woman, this class is a dream. Even if you do not make this stunning dress (and why wouldn't you?) you will learn how to do a padded hem, a soft armhole, stabilize a princess seam and much more. And the Pattern is FREE. It just does not get better than this. Thank you Lynda."
