Designer Natalie Chanin will show you how to hand-sew appliqué and add artistic stencils and stitches to turn a Vogue coat pattern (included free!) into a work of art.
Join the innovative designer behind the Alabama Chanin brand in her studio to learn timeless hand-stitching techniques to create elegant wardrobe pieces. Using the paisley stencil pattern provided or one of your own, you'll apply your designs to two layers of soft and supple cotton jersey, then choose from a variety of appliqué styles. You can add embroidery and beading to further customize your coat. Finally, you'll learn construction and finishing techniques for your coat, including felled seams with top-stitching, pocket insertion, shapely darts and sleeve-edge ribbing – all achieved with simple hand-stitching.

Really interesting class!
I have taken several classes on Craftsy now. I found this class to be one of the most enjoyable and informative, but a bit more than that -- Natalie is an artist and it's the glimpse into the way she thinks and works with her materials that makes this special. The resources she provides on her own site and in her books are great -- but with this class you want to take it further.

A great surprise at how informative this class is.
Let me start by saying that I have been a fan of Alabama Chanin and Natalie herself for almost a year. I purchased all the books and made a few of the projects and was very pleased with the results. I really want to take a class with her, but the problems of distance and time are hard to overcome.

Be warned, this class may turn you into a fanatic
Not in a million years would I ever have imagined that I would be enthusiastically hand embellishing a garment. I could have sworn I wouldn't have the time or patience. I was completely put off by the "hand-embellishing" title of this class but luckily I went temporarily mad and signed up. I have been so inspired by this class and Natalie's designs that I am happily hand sewing during every free moment I find - and I'm rearranging my life to create as many free moments as possible.

I have only had the time to view a few of the videos, but Natalie is such a wonderful teacher. There is such a grace about her style of teaching and she is wonderfully informative, especially when she is explaining the physics of the cotton fibers used to create the thread and fabric.
