The Confetti Star Block is a free star quilt block pattern from Craftsy member DuringQuietTime. The wonky look of the star is planned rather than improvisational, however, with a paper-piecing method. Use an assortment of colored fabric scraps to make this fun star quilt block. A group of four stars makes a 12″ finished quilt block.

Elizabeth’s Mariner’s Star Pillow Pattern is a free download that you can use to make a stand-alone quilt block, a pillow cover or an entire quilt. The paper-pieced block makes a great 20″ holiday pillow or anytime design, depending on your color scheme. Use a planned or scrappy fabric approach for this pillow, which incorporates log cabin piecing around the border.

  1. Jelly Bean Stars (here on Craftsy) is my go-to star. Both the stars in the blocks and those in the sashing are designed so all the star points are well away from any seam allowances. You just can’t accidentally cut off any points. The string-pieced center of the block adds an extra touch of fun too
