After completing Craftsy’s FREE Basic Fondant Techniques class with Elisa Strauss, Craftsy member SweetCakebyDari was inspired by an invitation to create these charming fondant toppers depicting polar bears at the North Pole. The bear’s cold weather accessories were given a sheen with luster dust and the writing was completed with an edible marker.

Snowflake cupcakes

Snowflakes are an iconic symbol of winter and can be used to create simple and elegant cupcakes. With the use of a cutter, Bake Happy punched out small, yet detailed fondant snowflakes and allowed them to dry thoroughly prior to embellishing iced cupcakes. With the addition of  candy pearls, these charming cupcakes encompass the feel of a chilly winter’s day. Easily add some sheen with shimmer dust or luster spray.

Colorful Little Fondant Penguins

Cool igloo fondant toppers

For those celebrating a birthday during the winter months, taking into account the current climate provides for some cute and cool themes! These penguin party cupcake toppers were created to coincide with designs by Bird’s Party. An assortment of both two- and three-dimensional fondant figures match back to the graphics. The flat penguins were cut out from an ice cream cone cutter turned upside down and demonstrate the ability for creative uses of traditional tools.

These utterly precious fondant penguins were hand-molded by Mimicafe Union, who is incredibly talented at creating stories with her work. By altering the penguins’ beaks, flippers and stances, each figure comes to life in their icy world. Small details, such as flowers and hearts, add extra charm to the penguins, along with light pink shimmer dust painted on their cheeks.

Polar bears have also become a symbol of winter and Victorious Cupcakes captured these beautiful animals in adorable cupcake form! The polar bear faces cover the entire surface of the cupcake and are textured to resemble fur. Because the bears also need to keep warm, their multicolored scarves are made the night prior to ensure they maintain their shape as they blow in the wind. These Fair Isle cupcake toppers were inspired by designs by Green Beansie Ink to resemble winter sweaters. The Fair Isle knitting technique was re-created in fondant with a harlequin pattern using a small diamond cutter, while the texture was added with a rolling embossing tool.

These snowmen are adorned with brightly colored mittens, scarves and hats, which add a fun and nontraditional aspect to the design.
