Quilting With Friends: Modern Bee Blog Tour & Giveaway!

Do you enjoy sewing and quilting with friends? Have you ever participated in a quilting bee? Although I’m a regular contributor to the Craftsy quilting blog, today I’m excited to share a little bit about my first quilting book: Modern Bee: 13 Quilts to Make With Friends, published by Stash Books.
One lucky reader will also win a Modern Bee prize pack, filled with quilting fabric, thread and notions! To enter, just head here by Monday, October 21, 2013. Then, comment on this blog post telling us what you’re sewing right now. We’ll randomly select a winner on October 22, 2013.

About the book

Modern Bee: 13 Quilts to Make With Friends features modern quilting projects made by a group of 12 quilters who first met online through our sewing blogs. We formed a virtual quilting bee called Mod Stitches, and each month, one quilter designed a block and mailed fabric to the others in the bee. The members of Mod Stitches each made blocks based on the pattern, and returned them back to that month’s quilter. In this way, each quilter had a special hand in making every quilt in the book.

Quilt with Bold Blocks and Wave Design

Certainly, there were blocks that were challenging to each of us. Sewing curves and tiny block-in-block piecing was tricky and new to many in the group. But, we stuck with it and grew by leaps and bounds! Seeing the finished quilts come together from individual blocks made by my friends was such a special process that I will treasure for years to come.

Quilt with Patterned Hatch Design

If you’d like to check out the book, it will teach you how to make each of the 13 modern blocks and full quilts. And it doesn’t matter if you’re sewing on your own or with friends, because the patterns work just great any way you make them! But if you would like to read some tips on how to successfully organize your own quilting bee, the book does cover that in detail.

Enjoy this quick video preview of the book, featuring the quilts and the talented contributors that made them!

You can also check out the book’s Web site to learn more. For more previews, giveaways and fun extras from Modern Bee: 13 Quilts to Make With Friends, be sure to follow the tour!

What an awesome prize pack! I have a couple things in the works right now, but what I must finish first is my son-in-law’s birthday gift. I’m using the Coastal Cruiser van pillow pattern and adding a VW emblem to it . . . he’s a big VW fan!!

I’m preparing to make some small gifts for Christmas…a cute cupcake potholder. I have the fabric and the special batting. Can I buy time??? I have been so busy with work and family, I haven’t found the time to cut them out, let alone sew them!

Well like so many quilters, I have lots of on going projects. I have four BOMs as well as three Christmas gifts I need to get done. It’s been great looking at all the quilts in the book and learning about bees.

Thank you for a super giveaway and a chance to win.

I have many WIP’s….. A quilt for my husband, a quilt for my amazing midwife, a baby blanket to sell, a bassinet blanket to sell, a thrown blanket for a friend…. Each is at a different stage, I work on the one that’s at the point I’m in the mood for at that given moment :-)
