Meet Susan, and Learn All About Craftsy’s Presence at Trade Shows!

Meet Craftsy's Susan Juvet
Meet Susan. She is a stellar new member of our Craftsy team, and she’s been up to some awesome stuff since she’s been here! She hit the ground running on day one, and has already helped Craftsy attend a trade show (STITCHES South), with many more on the calendar! Susan is a great addition to our growing team here at Craftsy HQ, and we are so excited about how she is helping us connect with the Craftsy community, and helping members connect with each other.
I had the chance to sit down with Susan this week (after all, her desk really is right next to mine) and talk to her a bit about her experience at STITCHES South, what she’s planning, and what her favorite part about working at Craftsy has been so far. Thanks for playing along, Susan!
Hi Susan! You’re fairly new here at Craftsy HQ, can you tell us a little bit about your position and what you’ve been doing so far?
Hi! Yes, I am about 1 month old here, but I’ve known the Craftsy folks for quite some time because I interacted with them in my previous job at BurdaStyle. It is so awesome to be a part of this team! I’ve been working on new and exciting marketing initiatives. This includes live events and creating unique activations to engage the Craftsy community around the globe. I’ve been putting together events we will be participating in, and other events we plan on hosting in the future. Keep an eye out on the site for the latest news and updates! I am also working on new partnerships and ways to work with other online communities and brands.
You recently attended STITCHES South in Atlanta, Georgia. How was the show? Did you come home with any new and exciting tips?
STITCHES South was a really great experience. I am not new to the craft industry as a whole, but definitely new to the knit and crochet worlds. I learned so much just by meeting some of the other vendors and discussing trends in yarn, online consumers, pattern trends, and more. It was really great to meet and learn from founders of the event being an event producer myself, as well as the brilliant minds behind XRX.
What was your favorite event at STITCHES?
My favorite event had to be the fashion show. At every STITCHES event there is a not-to-be-missed fashion show that takes place one evening. This show consists of gorgeous garments worn down the runway, and the following day you can actually purchase the patterns seen in the show on the Market Floor. It’s really fun to see new ways to wear knits. I also enjoyed the pajama party, where everyone gets into their pj’s and slippers and meets up to play fun games and win prizes. It was just a great time to mingle with some of the attendees in a relaxed environment. Apparently the pj party got wild after I left and security showed up!

Speaking of trade shows, when will Craftsy be attending another one?
The next event on our calendar is Maker Faire Bay Area on May 19 and 20. This event is also open to the public, and a ton of fun…but it is not focused on just one type of craft. Instead it is all about making, creating and socializing. There are robots, laser shows, experiments, and even shopping from local area craft vendors. It is undoubtedly one of my favorites and I try to go year after year in New York and California.
What kinds of things can we look forward to seeing at the Craftsy booth at Maker Faire?
The Craftsy booth will be the number one place to be! We have two project stations where you can get in touch with your DIY spirit and meet fellow attendees. One project station will be hand sewing a small robot toy. This project is courtesy of Spoonflower Fabrics, the online community where you can print your own fabric design and shop from other designers. The second project will be some fun button adorned accessories you can craft up with buttons from Blumenthal Lansing. Oh, did I mention not only do you get to make a FREE project, you also walk away with a FREE Craftsy class? The Craftsy Make & Take is a must see at Maker Faire.
Finally, how are you liking Craftsy so far? What’s your favorite aspect of working here?
I love working here. It is so awesome to be able to try new ideas and really get the community offline engaged with us. We are real people after all and we want to make sure everyone gets to know the real us. It is so exciting to be a part of such a fast growing community, too! I like that we offer something for almost anyone. My absolute favorite aspect of working here, though, is sitting beside you, Megan. Obviously!

How can I get a list of the future shows
Hi Susan,
I wish you well with your new position end enjoy it.
I live in London Ontario Canada, and attended the spring Creative and Craft Show in Mississauga last weekend (apr 27 20012).We also have a show in Oct in Toronto, my question is, is there any chance we could see you there representing Craftsy????
I know Craftsy has a following here in my area. I was in Hyggeligt, a great fabric store in my
downtown and happened to say I was taking part in the B O T M with Craftsy and the owner said so was she.
Anyway just thought I’d ask, it would really be nice to meet you.
Thanks Val.
Hi Val My name is Irene and I live in the London area. I saw your comment on the Craftsy newsletter under meet Susan and was wondering if we could have a chat. My friend who was my quilting buddy moved away and so I am trying to find someone else to go quilt stores with ets. I am also doing the BOM at Craftsy and had no idea there was a store in London. Leave me a message if you can and hopefully we can connect.
Happy quilting! Irene
Hi Val and Irene,
I live in St. Thomas and learned about the store on Richmond St (London)when I visited a Quilt Store in Alliston!! I belong to 2 guilds why is this store such a secret. I am doing the BOM and having a ball with it.
When and where will Craftsy be in Florida?
Hello Susan, Glad to have you on our team, I a quilter on the out side, it seems like we are one big family with only a written word here or there any way I hope to get to know you better . May the road you take in life make you shine just that much more.
Will Craftsy attend Stitches in Schaumburg in august?
Hi Deb,
Yes, we will totally be there! Come and meet us!
I was wondering whether you will have a craft show in the Phoenix, AZ area at any time? I really liked what I have been reading. I am currently learning to crochet and very interested in learning to sew as well. I am really excited about learning as much as I can about making things by hand. Thank you.
Hi Catherine! Congrats on taking up crafting! We’re so glad to have you as a part of our community. As of now, we don’t have any plans to attend any craft shows in the Phoenix, AZ area; however, if in the future we plan to attend one there, we will be sure to post about it.
