Nothing makes me smile like a new knitting project combined with the perfect yarn, unless it’s working on it with a big group of friends!
I just love the gorgeous (and FREE) Holden Shawlette pattern from Craftsy crafter MindySW.
Let’s do a Holden Knit-Along!!
If you’re new to the concept of the knit-along, all it means is that I’ll be working on a project here on the blog, and you can knit it along with me if you want to!
Here’s how it’ll work:
- I’ll be posting about the project with updates and photos every Friday until I finish it.
- If there are any tricky spots in the pattern, I’ll go over them with you and explain what to do.
- I’ll also offer up any advice or tips that I can think of to help you through the project.
If you have any questions or thoughts as we go, feel free to leave them in the comments, and I’ll comment back to answer (or if it’s a reeeally big question, I’ll answer you in the next blog post.)
If you’d like to cast on and knit along with me, let’s go!
The first thing you’ll need to do is check out MindySW’s Holden Shawlette project page, and click on the free pattern link.
Next, you’ll need to find the proper materials.
The pattern calls for:
Yarn: 430-450 yards, 3.5-4.0 oz fingering weight yarn
Needles: US Size 6 (4 mm) 24 in or larger circular needles
Notions: darning needle
I’ll be using a skein of Lorna’s Laces Solemate in the color “Franklin’s Panopticon.” It has 425 yards, instead of 430, but hopefully I’ll be ok!
Solemate is a new sock yarn from Lorna’s Laces, it’s 55% Superwash Merino, 15% Nylon, and 30% Outlast fiber. I can’t wait to work with it.
In fact, I have an extra skein to give away!
If you’d like to be the lucky owner of a skein of this yarn, become a member of Craftsy (it’s easy and FREE to join) and comment on this blog post telling us what you love about knitting!
If you need a little brush-up on your knitting skills, check out our KnitLab online knitting course. In it, you’ll learn the stitches needed to knit this shawl along with me! (Sign up through this post and take the course for 50% off.)

You should be just fine with the yardage of the Solemate!
I don’t knit a lot, but I’ve been wanting to try something new. This is so pretty and looks like I can handle it. So I’ll join in.
What I love about knitting is the relaxing feeling I get when I knit
Excellent! I’m so glad that you’ll be joining me!
i am a beginner knitter but i learn fast and want to do more complex projects. i really enjoy knitting – it is more relaxing than i thought
I love the creative freedom there is to knitting. You can either follow the pattern step by step or add your own little creative twist to the project to make it completely your own!
Knitting is the best of therapies. I love the way it makes me feel, it relaxes me, it helps me figure out a solution for my problems and it gives me peace.
I like the feeling of accomplishment. I love pulling my FO off of my blocking wires and thinking, dang, I made this!
been wanting to work on a lace project!
I’ve got this queued up on Ravelry, so I’ll be joining in! I love everything about knitting. I’ve only be doing it since February, but the feeling of accomplishment I get when I learn a new stitch or technique is heady stuff indeed! I have been sewing for several years, so I understand the joy of creating something beautiful, but knitting is just for me – I usually get to keep the end result! I love the beautiful fibres and glorious colours available now, as well as the lovely modern circular needles. Discovering the wealth of talent out there and being a part of the online community fuels the passion even more!
(My Ravelry ID is pipnmilly)
I love everything about knitting! Planning projects, pettIng yarn, the relaxation, the FO, and everything else too!
I love this shawl. I think I might do a slightly larger version in a sport weight yarn. I love to knit because you start off with just yarn and needles, and transform it into a beautiful creation.
I love how I can be in the moment with the stitches and the work. Then I can look down later and realize that I have managed to create something amazing one little stitch at a time. It’s one of those things that gets me every time. I can take a bunch of string and make something that is pretty, that has a very real and practical value and provides me with immense relaxation. Knitting, all of it, is amazing…except maybe blocking… I don’t love blocking!
I love the colors in that yarn! Beautiful. One of the things I love about knitting is that I’m able to create something in time that would otherwise be wasted.
Just added to my rav faves, can’t wait to knit this up!
I find knitting relaxes me.
I have to say I am mostly a product knitter, which means that I like having a customized for me project at the end. I do like also, that it is very soothing when it wants to be, and challenging when it wants to be, so it keeps me on my toes!
I passed right by the shawlette before, but I see now its charms.
I love the rhythm of the stitches on my needles … and get huge satisfaction out of the fabric I create!
I love this pattern and would love to try her yarn
I love to see how a pattern develops as I knit. Every little bit or row makes me want to knit more just to see how it will turn out. I love the community of knitters also, seems like a secret code language!
I only just started knitting about 6 months ago, so if my skills were more advanced I would definitely be knitting along! I’ll just put this in my “future projects” for now. I’ve crocheted for years but since I learned to knit I can’t stop. And I love Lorna’s Laces and have used it in quite a few projects in the last 3 months or so. There are just too many things I love about knitting to put them all down here!
What a beautiful pattern!
Wonderful project! What I love about knitting? Creating something tactile – after years of creating simulation models of financial things, it’s really nice to know that my hands can create something of warmth and true value, one stitch at a time.
I love how relaxing it is!
I have some Noro Sock yarn and I’ve been looking for a project to use it on. I might just join in! I picked up knitting again after laying it aside for a few years, but it’s really relaxing and gives me something productive to do while watching TV.
this pattern looks nice for cover up here in Florida. wear lots of dresses and sun dresses and arms and back are always bare at night when a light wrap would be nice
I love knitting because it makes me feel productive while I’m watching TV! I also just love making homemade things for my friends and family
I just downloaded this pattern the other day from Ravelry….gonna make this for my grandma for Christmas!
Great timing, I was looking for a first pattern to try lace knitting, at least with a KAL, I can get help!
Yes! AND, I know that Mindy (the designer herself) will be checking in on us!
Knitting is my relaxation outlet! This pattern looks like it will be fun to do! Off to get some yarn and start knitting!
I’ve been looking for a nice shawl pattern.. this one is perfect! Thank you!
Following patterns is a constant challenge to me as I do much better just pulling my next stitch out of my head LOL! But, having admitted my biggest weakness here, count me in on your KAL and do wish me luck too!
I love that you start out with sticks & string & you end up with a beautiful piece of wearable art! Love the little shawl.
Lornas laces yarn and this pattern are gorgeous!!
I love to knit because I find it very relaxing after a stressful day. I’ve actually fallen asleep with needles in my hands!
I LOVE knitting. Also love teaching it. Have been knitting 50+ yrs & teaching for 12 yrs. Nothing better than taking someone who has never touched needles and helping them become an avid accomplished knitter. Lace shawl pattern is beautiful. Hope to knit along. An caring for a 2yr old gr grand daughter as mommy is having a baby boy anyday now. Then home to my stash.
This is a beautiful shawl!
What I love most about knitting is seeing the finished product, and being able to give someone a gift that I made myself that they just love. Knitting also helps me to destress and relax in my own little world for awhile.
When all is quiet and I pick up the needles, I’m transported back 60 yrs to remember my mother’s hands holding and teaching mine how to make the stitches. Knitting transcends the generations and I’m happy to have taught my daughter and my granddaughter. I trust that their passion for yarn will continue to grow as well.
I use knitting to relax and as a stress reliever. I love shawls and have knitted 2 so far, one I gave away and one I use constantly, so I am in need of another shawl, and this pattern is really pretty!
What I love about knitting…. it’s simple complexity, with just 2 stitches a whole world of possibilities open up. I have only been knitting for a couple years, but I always say that learning to knit was like joining a church, it takes over your life and teaches new and meaningful things everyday, and there is a large fellowship of knitters to learn with.
I’d love to make that gorgeous shawl!!
I love knitting because it relaxes me, after a long, stressful day I am able to pick up my needles and let myself unwind!
I’m kind of new to knitting but I like how fast it goes. My favorite pattern right now is the basket weave.
I love making things to give away! I love a bit of guerilla knitting! I love the “magic” of knitting! I love feeling productive and creative!
I love to knit and crochet. It is a really relaxing activity for me and I feel like I’m accomplishing something. I would love to win the extra skein giveaway.
It looks gorgeous! I hope mine looks as good.
I would love to win this yarn! Thanks for the nice giveaway!
The pattern looks cute and the yarn colours look great – I can’t wait to see how it turns out
i love knitting (and crocheting) shawls. i already have the recipient of this one picked out!
I just love the visual candy experience of watching a fabric materialize under my busy fingers as I knit something up.
I love to see the finish product of my hard work. I take a lot of classes so I can learn as much as possible about any kind of knitting or crocheting.
I love this project. I have seen a few like it but always with stuff i just don’t like I am casting on today.
I love everything about knitting. It is my stress-relief, and helps keep me sane when all is not
It’s so calming and rewarding to create, and knitting allows me to do this just about anywhere! At home, on the bus, at school, breaks at work…you name it!
I can’t wait to try this. Been looking for a smaller shawl for a neice’s wedding.
…beautiful pattern…I’m in !
What I love about knitting. It makes me feel as if I can do anything. Here I am a mother of 3 and a wife, but what really defines me is what I do with yarn. It is the one thing that is me and I can pour all of my desires into what I make. I say something with everything I knit. The things I make can tell of my mood as well. For me it is my passion.
I love trying new and unique projects…can’t wait to start.
Excellent! This is going to be fun!
I’m in! What’s one more WIP at this point?
Woo-Hoo! Welcome!
I’ll join this knitalong! I’ve had this shawl in my rav queue for a while.
The thing I love best about knitting is the millions of intricate and lovely things that can be made using just two sticks and some string!
Yay! Welcome!
Beautiful shawl!
What I love about knitting……That I learned such an enjoyable craft from my son’s teacher. Ms. Boone teaches k-2nd grade at our charter school here in Colorado. She shares here love of wool by teaching all of the students how to knit, crochet and all methods of felting. What a wonderful gift to give a child. So many have had success completing projects! Knitting can give a child success and a life long skill!
I love knitting it cures most of my ills, helped me give up smoking and always takes me back 45 years and I remember my Grandmother teaching me, not a knitting session passes that I dont think of her.
After spending a day running after kids, it is nice to sit down and do something just for me. If it is a nice simple pattern I can relax and put my feet up, or if it a particularly stressful day then I pick a complicated lace pattern and just forget about everything and just concentrate on the pattern. It is like reading, but you end up with something concrete at the end of it.
I love the meditative quality of knitting, how it always slows me down to the individual stitch level. I also love that I am never without something to do!
The pattern looks fun and the yarn color is fabulous!
i love to knit, mostly the intricate Irish fisherman type cables and patterns. the yarn looks really smooth to work with. i can picture me using my 0′s with this yarn!
I love to knit and lace is my absolute favorite, especially in the summer. I am on Ravelry (vjbear) and have had this shawl on my to-do list. What fun to have a knit-along for it! Luv the yarn! Luv the colors!
Pretty shawlette, gorgeous yarn! Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I’m a slow knitter, so I’m not sure I’ll be able to join the KAL (I have to finish the first sock for my husband; with luck, I’ll manage two of them), but I’ve added this to my list of “what else?”
Knitting allows me to create something that is uniquely mine. This is a shawl I’ve had my eye on and a knit-along sounds like the perfect plan for August. Can’t wait to get started.
Looks like a fun project.
Beautifully glorious!
Gorgeous! Please add my name to the hat. What I love about knitting – I’m still learning, but I love the ability to make something from seemingly nothing. It’s different than sewing, where you feel like you’re more shaping fabric. With knitting, you’re creating fabric. Fabulous.
I love knitting because it’s relaxing (most of the time), it can be challenging when learning a new technique, you make beautiful useful items, and I love working with soft beautiful yarns, especially hand dyed ones because of the beautiful rich colors.
I love seeing the yarn come to life. I have learned to appreciate the different fibers; the alpacas, wools, etc. I love making things for my love ones as it is personal and they know that with me spending the time to make them something shows my love.
Gorgeous yarn and pattern. I’m always looking for new thing to make.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Lorna’s Laces yarn and have a lot. I have not used this new sock yarn and would so love to try it out. I always love her colorways, this one is particlarly beautiful. I can’t join you this time with a knit along as I have several projects going right now and can’t buy any yarn at present. Which of course is why I would love to win that skein!!!!
I am new to this site but love it already
I love everything about knitting! I love the rhythm, it relaxes me. I love how portable it is, I can knit and mother. I love that I can make something that fits ME exactly. The creative outlet is so satisfying especially when I design something myself.
It’s a very relaxing activity for me a way to wind down from a busy day.
Iam member of Craftsy(nushechka)
Love knitting toys
I love in general being creative – making something my own. With knitting, I can take a pattern and alter it to my size, to my liking. It’s great!
My current favorite thing to knit is shawls – I’ve done 3 in the last month, and Holden is in my que! Stopping by my lys today for my yarn.
Beautiful pattern. Can’t wait to make it.
Beautiful lace pattern!
Oooh I love the shawlette and the beautiful Lorna’s Laces yarn! I would love to try both!
Perfect project to share with my knitting group . . . off to buy some yarn and get started!!!!
That’s a seriously pretty shawl…I think I have just the yarn for it!
Learned to knit in my late forties and I love it! I get such a feeling of accomplishment when I finish a project. I make a lot of gifts for friends and family but socks are my favorite to knit. I would love to try this shawl!
I love the meditative feeling and watching the knitted object take shape. I was about to start a different shawl pattern (Ishbel), but maybe I’ll do Holden with the KAL and save Ishbel for later.
I love the Holden Shawlette, can’t wait to get started on it!
Knitting keeps me sane! I just love working on new and intriguing projects.
I love so many things about knitting, but mainly that I can do it no matter how I’m feeling – and also that it makes recipients happy.
That color is wonderful! Let’s see…what do I love about knitting…I love its portability. I love how it’s working with my hands. I love how I can chat with friends and keep stitching! And I love the knitting community and how friendly and interested other knitters are with each other.
Love the pattern! Just downloaded it and plan to knit along!
I’ve yearned for a skein of this yarn. It has something to do with the name….!
This is so beautiful…I’ve been looking for a shawl to make for myself for next winter…and this is definitely it!
Thanks!!!
I like that knitting still seems like a magic trick with string. I’m already into the lace section on a Holden!
I’ve always wanted to knit this shawlette. When does the knit along start? By the way I would love to win some Lorna’s Laces.
I love knit along I love shawls
I like the feeling of a job well done when I complete a project.
I had this pattern in my Rav libl for quite some time. I look forward to the KAL. As for why I love knitting, I love that I’m able to be creative while spending time with family. I also sew but that requires me to be in another room separate from everyone.
I’ve been searching for something to use the sock yarn I picked up at Sock Summitt 2009, and I think will do the trick. I am fairly new to knitting and this knit along just might be what I need to learn something new.
Thanks!!!
Great pattern. Beautiful yarn!
What I love about knitting is that I can share tips and patterns with my daughters’ friends as well as with the grandmother of a dear friend. There are no boundaries to design and concepts.
The ability (sometimes questionable!) to make something out of any sting/yarn/plastic strips etc etc makes me feel like I can conquer the world! So I suppose I love knitting because it gives me making power!
This yarn looks to gorgeous and soft – I would love to reach thru the computer monitor and touch it! I want to win it!!!
I get so excited when I am knitting that it starts to look like the project I am doing. I find knitting to be very relaxing and fun!
love the colorway you’ve chosen – can’t wait to see the finished project!!!!
Knitting makes me happy and calm
I learned to knit in college and enjoy keeping my hands busy while listening to the radio or watching TV.
I love how relaxing knitting is. It gives you something to do with your hands and helps you feel productive without stressing
I love the freedom of it and better yet – the women I have met. I have learned things from some of these wonderful role models that the women in my family have not learned…how to age and remain involved, that you are never too old to try new things, and the list goes on and on….Ladies, my hat is off to you….
Love the knit-a-long! Shared it with my knitting group.
what I love about knitting: how it helps me refocus and still keep my hands busy. I love making beautiful and useful things for myself and others I care about.
I’m working on my 3rd Holden and will be checking in here to follow the progress
~shy~
Knitting is my therapy! The colors, the variety, the texture. It is my constant companion!
Love the color choice for the shawl….love lace weight and shawls, period! Lorna’s Laces is a wonderful yarn choice for a shawl. Looking forward to the knit a long!
Knitting is like a refill for my sanity, and it calms the raving mad bitch within! I love it when people tell me “Oh I could never do that, I have to be doing something, I couldn’t sit all that time,” because I look them dead in the eye and say “Um, we’re at the playground watching the kids. I could be sitting here doing nothing like you, or I could be productive with my time and get a few rows in.” The look on their face when I say that is priceless!
I love making Christmas stockings for the family, keeping the tradition of everyone in the family having a custom knit stocking just for them.
This year I get to make my Sister in law and her new baby one! Squee!
I also love finding new ZOMG ADORBZ patterns for my little ones, it’s just so great to dress them up in something that YOU made for them! I can’t wait to get started on my next project, but I need a skein of “LORNA’S LACES” *hint hint* to get going!
I love knitting because it relaxes me.
Looks fun, wheres my handspun I have been looking for something to use it for, got it now the needles………?
Glad I joined today the competition was the final draw I needed………
I think it’s amazing what can be created with my own 2 hands, needles and a ball of yarn.
There aren’t too many thing I can say I am good at, but I am a proud knitter. It is the best (not to mention, most PRODUCTIVE) stress-reliever ever.
Knitting has helped me through a lot of rough patches. At sixty I have had a few. I was comforted while knitting through my Dad’s terminal cancer ten years ago and my Mom’s recent hospital stay and subsequent death two months ago. It keeps me grounded, giving me something to think about and to do that is positive and tangible. I have knitted in bank lines, waiting rooms, in cars, trains, and planes. Without my knitting I feel incomplete!
Never knitted a shawl ,this looks so good must give it a go.
I love how relaxing knitting is. In addition to knitting, it’s a thoughtful and lovely way to give a gift. There aren’t many people who wouldn’t appreciate a hand knit gift from someone they care about.
Pretty shawlette pattern and interesting yarn colors on the skein. I think I have it in my Ravelry queue to be knit, must go look.
I love the feel of the yarn, the feel of the knitted product, the meditative state I get into when it’s going well… And the sense of accomplishment with I figure out what I did to make it NOT go well!
I love this yarn!!
I’ve got some lovely merino/silk yarn I’ve been wanting to turn into a shawl. LOVE this pattern, can’t wait to get started!
I love knitting. It is relaxing and fulfilling.
What I love about knitting, besides the relaxing and satisfactory qualities of making something by hand, is no matter your skill level there is ALWAYS something new to learn. I love conquering the challenges that come along with learning a new skill and being able to proudly show it off to my non-knitting and knitting friends alike. Which also brings to the point that I love how it bonds people. I have made several friends in a local knitting group I discovered after moving to a new town and have made a good friend when beginning to teach a coworker how to knit. I could probably ramble on and on about yarn and knitting, I do on a regular basis, but I should leave room for others to post here, too!
And by the way, that shawlette looks so cute! Bookmarking to work on it after I finish up with the socks I started.
Oh, this is easy. What I love about knitting? Everything!
I love looking at other people’s knitting for inspiration, I love creating something either for me or for somebody else, I love love love the yarn and I even love my knitting needles!
I love the huge amount of amazing people I’ve ‘met’ on Craftsy and other knitting web sites, just so much talent!
But mostly I love that even though my mom has passed away recently, knitting will always keep me close to her spirit. She taught me to knit and she loved it just as much as I do!
I love that feeling of looking at a finished project and being able to say that ‘I made something beautiful” all whilst I was relaxing but still challenging myself with new patterns and skills – a perfect combination!
Knitting keeps my creative juices flowing and occasionally amazes me with results that are far better than expected!
I’ve never done any lacework, but this shawl is beautiful! I’d be willing to give it a try.
I love all the different yarns. The textures, the colors. I spend hours in a yarn store just feeling things.
Lovely!
I love so much about it! The creativity, the therapeutic nature of the rhythmic “click clack”. I love the fact that one simple ball of yarn can become so many different things and that my children can eventually wear what I have made. “Two sticks & a bit of string” as Stephanie Pearl McPhee puts it – just look what you can get from that.
im teaching my daughter how to knit at the moment – the other day she asked my how i make the click clack noise! she loves it too lol.
What a lovely pattern. Am anxious to knit it.
Love Lorna’s Laces yarn!
I love knitting because it has been a life-long life-saver for me! Often when I’m upset about something, I’ll pick up my knitting, but also knit for the love of it. Love the feel of the different fibers, and enjoy watching a hank of yarn turn into a patterned piece before my very eyes! As well, the portability of knitting works well for me… I take it to meetings; when I’m travelling; to appointments where my time seems not to be respected; and when I’m visiting. And,yes, I learned to knit as a child, and here I am in retirement still knitting away. Haven’t yet participated in a knit-along, so, before I get any older, think I’ll try it with this gorgeous Holden Shawlette.
Beautiful lace project!
Nothing soothes me like creating something with some fine yarn and knitting needles!
I want to try knitting lace
I would love to try this yarn.
I love knitting because its relaxing and I like trying new techniques.
I love that knitting helps me study!
At the beginning of the year I picked up knitting as a way to keep moving while studying. I just started taking classes again and I find it’s hard to sit and read my text book when there are so many things to do around the house. So if I knit while I’m studying I actually sit still because I feel like I’m accomplishing more than reading.
Knitting has an aura of “magic.” It is also extremely therapeutic. Knitting has been my companion through my husband’s many (many!) hospitalizations. I’ve made numerous items for many causes in my community and elsewhere. For my 50th birthday, I began a Red Hat Society chapter — Red Hot Stitchers — with a focus on sharing our stitching talents by making items of warmth and comfort for people and animals (humane society) in need in our community. The Holden Shawlette is perfect for our community’s nursing home, so guests can be protected from air conditioning drafts or be taken outside to enjoy fresh air. Lorna’s Laces colorways are infectious — I’m continuously drawn to them! I would be honored to make a Holden Shawlette from Lorna’s Laces yarn! Thank you for presenting the pattern and the opportunity to create the shawl in Lornaa’s Laces yarn.
All right, I’m in…hopefully this pattern truely is an easy one:)
I just love knitting. It’s my favorite past time. I love making projects for people and seeing the look on their faces when I suprise them with something hand made with love.
It’s also nice to see them wearing it and loving it. It just makes me happy to see others happy.
I love to knit, because it unwinds me. (seriously).
I love that in knitting, no matter what the mistake is, it can always be fixed. Freedom!
I’d love to join, but I live “down under” in Australia – am I too late?
I have a friend who made the holden shawlette. It come out beautifully.
I love the relaxing with knitting in hand. I feel like I am “doing something” other than wasting time. Plus it gives me something warm to wear when I am done.
I recently moved up north and knitting helped me to survive the long winter.
I love planning knitting projects and making warm gifts for my friends and loved ones. Thanks to knitting when everything outside was snow-white my fingers were full of colorful warm yarn. Not to mention all the hats, socks, hats and shawls that I am planning to produce in preparation for the next winter.
I have just got to try this !!!
I have a friend who made the holden shawlette. I came out beautiful.
I love lace knitting. This sounds like fun. What a beautiful pattern.
I find knitting to be very relaxing and I love the sense of accomplishment I feel when I finish a project.
This project looks beautiful.
Beautiful shawlette! Knit-a-longs are always fun!
As a Mama to 4 busy kiddos, knitting helps me stay sane!! Lol, but what I LOVE most about knitting is that I can make such beautiful pieces and they make the perfect gifts for anyone.
Beautiful shawl. Knitting is so calming and the feel of yarn and needles always lifts my mood. Every time I wear a finished garment I feel special!
oooh, this shawl is sooo pretty, i’ve got it queued up, and i’m spinning something special to knit it with….
Knitting shawlettes is so much fun. Only wish I didn’t look like giant shoulders wearing a doily. I have to stick to rectangular or full shawls. But yours should be great.
I really like this shawl…..a perfect new project….ssshhhh….don’t tell my other UFO’s about Holden. :O)
I love knitting because it is a great way to be creative and express myself. There is nothing like a gift that is made with “LOVE” and I can’t complain about the quality of my own handiwork. HeHeHe! My knitting can be with me in front of the TV, waiting for a doctor appointment, or anywhere I have to sit and wait, so I never waste my time in those circumstances. And most of all, knitting allows me to relax after a busy day and feel proud of my accomplishment.
Love Lorna’s Laces yarn. Can’t wait to try out this new one.
I love how relaxed I am when I knit. No matter how stressed out I am, when I knit I become relaxed. I also enjoy seeing how a ball or two, or more can be created into something wonderful!
I love knitting because it’s relaxing and tactile, and it’s very satisfying to make something useful with my hands.
I am just finishing my second Holden shawlette. I love the pattern. It reminds me of the waves on the water. And is not hard to do!
I love knitting for bunches of reasons ,making things for my peeps especially my grandbaby,it relaxes me,gets my creativity going and just plain love. Knitting !
I’ve always wanted to try Lorna’s Laces…almost every color is lovely!
I like the shawl pattern too; I’ve been meaning to start a new project because, you know, obviously the other 12 I have going are not enough! (Can there ever be enough?)
Lovely pattern, it’s now saved in my queue & will look great in the Lorna’s Laces yarn
I’ve been wanting to try this pattern!
Beautiful! I love lace knitting!
Love me some Lorna’s Laces!
This looks like a nice project to extend my knitting skills with! I learned to knit with Stefanie Japel’s knitting class here this summer, and I blame her infectious love of the craft for getting me addicted to knitting. I think what I love about knitting the most is working with the different fibers and seeing how they work up!
Heh, I totally didn’t realize you blogged this Stefanie! Pay attention to who is blogging, Amanda, really! I’m excited for this KAL!
I so love this pattern ….it’s a long time since I have knitted something lacey ,like over 20 yrs….I will see how I go.Thank you so much for sharing this project with us.
Cheers Michelle
I love knitting. I like the way that no matter how crazy and hectic it is around me (and it gets plenty hectic, I have a total of 5 sons with 3 by marriage and 2 by blood… the two left at home are just starting the teen years at 11 and 13… the 11 year old is learning to knit and the 13 yo is learning to crochet.. we also have 3 cats) I can just pull out my yarn and needles and all of the stresses just slowly evaporate while i focus on it. There’s also gratification later on when after my youngest two have outgrown items I’ve made for them they ask me to go and make something else for them while figuring out how to use what I’ve already made them in another way (the most recent was turning the first sweater I’d ever knit for the youngest into a pillow because he didn’t want to let it go yet)
There isn’t very much about knitting I don’t like…love the feel of nice yarn, the pleasure of the beautiful colors, the rhythm of actual knitting, my beautiful Harmony needles, being able to actually make things that people like and use, knowing that new mothers and family members look forward to getting something I made especially for them, doing something productive, even when I’m “resting”. I’ve just started knitting lace scarves and shawls (have done lace in garments before, but not an entire piece in lace) and it is very satisfying to my sense of accomplishment.
I am hesitant to knit anything that looks like lace; however, this may be the project I tackle. I adore Lorna’s yarns.
What I love about knitting is the visual, seeing the pretty color(s) of a yarn, the feel of the yarn, and it ‘scratches an itch’, if I am just wanting to knit, or if I feel antsy, it is relaxing and calms the ‘itch’. Additionally, I sometimes don’t use a pattern and create my own items. I like the creative outlet. I ‘itch’ to create!!!
Have been wanting to try making a shawl and have some awesome modal yarn I bought at the Wool Festival this past Spring. Think this knit along might just be a sign that I need to combine the two.
I love so many things about knitting. It calms me, it keeps my hands busy, it lets me make soft things in beautiful colors.. I could go on and on.
Beautiful lace project. I’d love to try it!
I picked up knitting when I found out I was going to be an aunty. Since then (my neiceis now 5) I have knitted lots of things for the children offriends and family, including my own little guys.
I will definitely start this knit along. I just finished another project and was wondering what I wanted to start next. Perfect!!
I love the process of knitting. It’s fun to challenge myself with new techniques.
What I love about knitting….the yarn, the needles, the cases, the patterns, did I mention the yarn! It puts me in my zone and takes away all my stressors. What’s not to love!
The thing I love about knitting is everything.
I like that I can be productive while waiting for something or watching tv or riding in the car. I love the challenge it gives me and how I learn something new with nearly every project, even after years knitting. I love that I can make unique things for myself and others. I really do love it all!
This is such a change from a boring scarf and i am looking forward to the challenge knowing there is someone to answer my questions.
Ok I am going to knit along with this pattern, I have never done a knit along before.
What I love about knitting is working with the wonderful yarns out there. I really love natural fibers and to make something with a hand painted or hand dyed yarn well…. there is just no feeling like it. But then again I like the feeling of surprising a friend with something I made out of some yummy fiber. I did this the other day and to see the shock, excitement and love that came over the persons face well…. it was a great gift to me I couldn’t have asked for more!
I have my needles all warmed up and ready to knit with this delicious yarn1
I knit so I don’t kill anyone. Lol. It is my therapy.
Knitting is down time for me. It is methodical and relaxing.
Knitting is soothing, and I love the things I have at the end.
I love to knit
I love the feel of of different fibers and grists slipping through my fingers
I love the artistic process as I create a new pattern or watch a new motif unfold
I love to watch the glorious interplay of colors and textures
I love the smells of new wool filled with lanolin, crisp linens with their grassy earth-smells, opalescent silks with their unique scent
I love the feel of my muscles relaxing and my mind calming as as all of these elements come together to form something useful and beautiful
I love knitting
i have been making handmade cards for years and love the satisfaction it brings. My mum passed away recently and she was an excellent knitter and I have inherited a bag full of needles and the odd ball of wool – so I set to work making tree decorations to start and have found that i absolutely love it. I get lost and can relax and find that it helps keep my hands mobile. I have degenerative arthritis and behcets disease and really struggle to keep myself occupied after having had to give up work. Crafting has helped my immensely.
I love the finer yarns and laceweight is so nice!
I love knitting because I love yarn! There’s nothing more relaxing than to rhythmically knit each stitch and magically end up with a finished piece!
Love the feeling of producing something beautiful…or just producing something!!
I love how knitting forces me to relax!
Can I play too! I have been working on a shawl, well and a shrug, and there are socks to start, but thats all, well and that lace project. Thats ok, Can I play too!
Besides the satisfaction (and amazement) of creating something wonderful with little more than string and sticks…..my favorite thing about knitting, is the comraderie you feel with other knitters. It’s this amazing, large, giving and talented community you are instantly welcomed into, with open arms (and stash). Knitters are the best!!
a beautiful pattern! I love to knit, it is so relaxing and I feel creative!
I love to knit and crochet for my family. I also can’t wait to teach my children just like my mom taught me. I think it’s a wonderful hobby and skill. It would be great to try a new yarn; and I’ve never done a knit along before.
I love the sense of accomplishment and creativity I get from knitting. It’s relaxing, gratifying and who wouldn’t love the array of colors available to knit with? I’m a full blown knitting junkie!
Beautiful yarn. I love those colors. the only things I can knit ( not very well) are scarfs and hats.
I love knitting for other people. I knit mainly prayer shawls, sometimes I know when I start who will be receiving the shawl, sometimes I don’t know until well after the shawl is done, and sometimes it comes to me while I am knitting along. I do love the peaceful feeling I get while knitting and praying.
Wow! one of my fave knitting guys plus a great yarn? sweet. And the pattern looks pretty nifty. I’ve been struggling with a lace pattern for …too many years now… and would love a different challenge.
I like knitting because as a diabetic, sometimes muggle socks HURT! Since the socks I knit are made for my feet, they never hurt.
I love knitting baby sweaters
They make me happy and lower my blood pressure
Love the idea of a knit along, what an excellent motivation!
I love knitting because I love seeing something besutiful emerge from a ball of wool.
Beautiful! Downloaded my pattern today, now rooting through the stash for the perfect yarn. Although, some free Lorna’s Laces would be lovely to use…
I love designing lace!!
Knitting soothes me.
I love knitting because it is so relaxing and it takes me away for a little while each day. I can be knitting a scarf or socks or pondering what to knit next, and feel completely settled. Even when a pattern frustrates me, I am happy. If my biggest problem in a day is that I have to frog something and start over, then I have had a great day. Not that life is terrible, but knitting makes life that much better.
I love to knit! Currently i’m knitting a bolero in stripes for my 9 yr old daughter, plus a handbag for me – i have the wool ready for a large shopping bag. ummmm that’s too many right?? wrong! lol – you can never have too many knitting projects hahhah – and this shawl is gorgeous!! One thing I would love about this site is if you posted the uk equivalents to the weights and measures you give
Anything with Franklin’s name on it makes me smile!
What a beautiful shawl – I knit to escape – this would be a perfect project and the yarn is so beautiful.
I love knitting because it provides me with an artistic outlet. My current favourite things to knit are lace, socks, two-colour mittens (Selbu) and the occasional cardigan.
I love the proocess of knitting; choosing the pattern and yarn, knitting, finishing and enjoying the final piece.
Beautiful shawl! I can’t wait to give it a try.
I love knitting because it is such a relaxing pastime. Plus, once you learn how to knit, it is something you never forget. I started when I was eight years old, and I can go years without picking up my needles, yet when I do I get the same comfort from them that I always have. They are like an old friend.
What I love about knitting is that it helps keep me sane and I love to create!
I love everything about knitting. My grandmother taught me when I was eight and I have been knitting ever since. I love carrying on the tradition of knitting something for new babies, family members friends. I love the community of sharing projects, inspiring each other and teaching.
Now I am going stright to my stash to see what I’ve got that I can start this gorgeous shawlette in.
Beautiful! Both the pattern and the yarn!
What a beautiful project.!!! I am slower at knitting then at crochting but I thing I am going to make this just for me.
I’m a member and I love this yarn!! My favorite thing about knitting is how different each project is just based on the yarn!
I love watching a project come together, every row adding more and more definition, until finally I have something beautiful to share with friends and family. Knitting gifts for others is the best! (Someday I’ll have to make something for myself again… lol)
Knitting reminds me that life is only as difficult as you make it!
Love to create unique items for my little one.
I love the way that simple stitches can turn into something that looks magnificently complicated!
I’ve gained quite the little passion for shawls since I started knitting, and I love this one, so I’ll join in for sure.
Knitting is one of my most fulfilling creative outlets; I love the versatility of it – like experimenting with different fibers for the same pattern, and seeing how diverse the results can be=) Pure magic!
Oh la la you are gambling with 425 yards! I’d try it too and leave a short tail to weave rather than the usual 6″ tail when casting on. Good luck!
I’m so “fresh” to knitting that I’m still working on my very first knitting project (a scarf, nothing fancy). I’ve since started four other projects, and they are all at varied stages.
Knitting is my form of relaxation from stressful work weeks and when I’m hiding from the household domestics (dishes, laundry, mopping, etc.). I already have a wonderful color mix from Lorna’s Laces (Zombie BBQ anyone?) And think they dye pattern of the skein you have to give away is just beautiful! I hope to grow and nurture my fairly new knitting hobby!
I love to knit! I had just started to knit when my mother passed away and knitting really helped me out.I made several scarfs as they were simple and easy in a garter stitch so I just stitched away when I needed to not think about what was going on. I now love to knit to see the wonderful items I am able to make and give as gifts. I am have not been successive in knitting a lace shawl yet so maybe this yarn would be the trick for me. =)
that yarn is gorgeous. i’m a novice knitter but looking to expand my skills. i’ve always loved yarn.
I think I am addicted to small shawls…. I have a long to do list of them and a bunch of yarn too.
I have not used this yarn yet, but I think I am addicted to small shawls! I have a long list of ones I want to do. ^_^ Pattern and yarn look yummy! Thank you for offering! ^_^
What a beautiful shawl. Count me in. Not sure what I’ll be using, but I’m sure to find something in my stash. Thanks for the chance to win some more beautiful yarn.
What I love about knitting is the beautiful things you can create as well as it can keep a person grounded. I knit because I have a special needs child and having the skill to knit allows me to keep me grounded and sane in life.
What do I love about knitting? Everything! I love how I can meet fellow knitters and crafters just by hauling out my knitting. I love that I can carry a project around in my purse with me. I love the variety of projects that you can knit from extreme knitting to itsy-bitsy tiny miniature knitting. You can knit almost anywhere. You can read about knitting (e.g. Stephanie Pearl-McPhee or Katie Jacobs). And all those different yarns and especially wools. I love wool. Hand-dyed alpaca, blue-faced leicester, merino, boucle . . . etc. I better stop, I’m starting to drool on myself. That’s what I love about knitting. Everything!
I love yarn. Each skein is filled with possibilities to be explored when I knit. And I love to share what I knit. I give all my creations away!
I have been a passionate knitter since 2002. I find it really relaxing and the perfect hobby and entertainment.
The shawlette is lovely and would be beautiful in the LL’s colorway you chose.
Its such a pretty shaw definatly want it in my collection got the needles now for the right yarn… yes?
I love all of the creativity in knitting! I love that I can make such beautiful things with my own two hands.
Love to knit… It’s therapeutic & creative… Love it, love it!
What beautiful yarn!
Love the shawlette. I might try to start it, but like a lot of people here I am fairly new to knitting. I have completed knit labs and 2/3rds of hats 4 ways. So far I have only knitted scarfs and hats, this seems a little intimidating. I am trying to gather up the courage to give it a go.
Beautiful yarn! And a lovely pattern!
GORGEOUS! I think I’m gonna give this a go,though it may be a bit advanced. Thank you for sharing this.
I have been knitting for 40 years and had found it the best way to relax after a stressful day at the office. I just joined this club because I have retired and have the time for new adventures in knitting.
I love knitting becasue it is so relaxing . I love the pattern.
I mostly love knitting because of the feel of the yarn, and working it is a “moving meditation”.
Corrected mail
What a beautiful shawl! I would love to knit that!
This yarn looks awesome. I can see making the shawl.
I love knitting because I am addicted to knitted projects! Knitting is also therapeutic and help me relax and most of all the triumph from my accomplishment!:)
I have been wanting to try a lace project and I just won the perfect skein of yarn for this project. Looks like I am going to have to get started.
I don’t have any of the yarn you are using for shawl but could I use Shetland in fingering weight instead
Absolutely, you can substitute any sock or lace-weight yarn.
I love knitting. I knit as often as I can. It is wonderful therapy.
I have a lace scarf/shawlette on my needles just now and am enjoying my first attempt at knittin lace. I would love to participate in your knitalong so, will go out an see what I can find at my local yarn shop that will do the trick. Would love to win the skien of Lorna’s Laces wool though, that would be super wonderful.
I love how relaxing it is and that it keeps my hands busy while watching TV.
i’ve been a knitter for more than sixty years, loved every minute of it! i’ve made so many different things through the years, mostly for others. i’ll love making this shawl …. i’ve had a sevn hundred yard of quviut saved for something special; will love making this just for me!
Ooh, lovely combination of yarn and pattern!
The question is, what don’t I love about knitting?? I guess my favorite thing about it, though, is the magic of turning a ball of yarn into a work of art.
I love being able to create something for all of my family with just a few dollars worth of yarn and time. I can hardly wait to join the kal. This is beautiful.
i have never knitted with lorna’s laces. I’ve been wanting to do holden for a long time, but unfortunately i have like 3 shawls and 4 sweaters and a million gagillion socks on the go so i won’t be knitting along. but i hope everyone who does has fun!
The shawlette is absolutely gorgeous. I would love to knit it with this yarn. This would be a great project for my upcoming trip to India. I can knit in the car, airport and the plane.
Love this pattern, gong to try the knit along!
I loved knitting this pattern and would certainly do it again. It’s great to have such a portable hobby.
Noro Silk Garden sock will make a lovely shawlette. I know I have some in the stash. Thanks for helping me stash bust…and the shawlette will make a lovely Christmas present…for whom remains to be seen. Thank you sensei.
Knitting gives me a sense of artistic accomplishment!
I love to knit because it is relaxing and yet you can be creative and accomplish something at the same time.
I can’t wait to start this project! I have been knitting for 40yrs now and my passions are Aran and lace. I have knitted several shawlettes and find them to be the most versitile and handy item for year round use.
I love knitting because it is challenging, creative & soothing all at the same time. I can relax, while I do something productive, and scratch the creativity itch that may not get scratched regularly otherwise
I love the feel of wonderful yarn, and can be a bit obsessed with the variety in color and possibilities – just in my cupboards alone
here’s to building the stash & possibilities! And good luck on the lovely lace project
There are so many things I love about knitting. Memories; my grandmother and Aunt teaching me techniques, the pleasure of petting fiber, the creative joy of making something for loved ones, the way knitting smooths out whatever is making me anxious, I love it all.
Love the pattern and lorna’s laces!!
I love knitting because Ifeel it’s very gratifying to turn a skein of yarn into something useful and nice. And I do relax while knitting !
It’s amazing! I had just queued the Holden Shawlette a couple of days ago and then now I see it posted on here. Haha…with TONS of others who want to knit it with me!! I just cast on for it tonight and have knit almost 2 inches. I love it! I am working with Malabrigo Lace….soooo soft.
I absolutely LOVE to knit because of how peaceful, comforting it is and also how satisfying it is when there is a beautiful finished project at the end. I can’t wait to follow this KAL!!!
I love the calming feeling I get from watching a piece slowly begin to take shape. And the way I get to finish it quickly if I use honkin’ big needles! I need something slow to work on and am thinking of trying a lace knit so this shawl might be perfect!
What I love about knitting is the inifinitude (sorry about that word) of possibilities. There is never an end to the discovery of new ideas, techniques, fibers, tools, and on and on.
The shawl and the yarn are gorgeous!
what i love in knitting is, every knit, every purl, is made thinking about the one you wanna offer it to, so it’s like concentrated love! who could resist that? ^^
Kniting is restful, peaceful and a link to my grandmother
Knitting is something I’ve done since I was about 8 (on and off) since my Nanny taught me. I love how simple it can be, or how complex! I’m teaching myself some lace patterns and this pattern looks like a great place to learn more!
That looks like I could even knit it, and with what better yarn!!!! Please be me!!
We have vacationed at Sunset Beach, just down the road from Holden Beach. Since I already have an association with it in my mind, it would be fun to knit this shawl.
What I love about knitting? It stops me from shoving food into my mouth. Best diet ever!!!
Liane
I love to knit for a lot of reasons. It’s relaxing. I love the feeling of the yarn in my hands. I like the satisfaction of making something, and I enjoy giving a handmade gift.
This is SUCH a beautiful pattern!!! I have been trying to find the perfect shawl pattern for my minimal lace knitting experience, and I HAVE FOUND IT!!!
It would be AWESOME to have the yarn to use for the pattern ;P
Very pretty pattern and I would love to make it with Lorna’s Laces Solemate.
Was really excited to see this KAl.I got the pattern from Ravelry, dug out some Noro sock yarn from my stash (would love the Lorna’s Laces but couldn’t wait), and started in. Then after casting on had a OMG moment when I came to the ‘turn your work 90 degrees’ and pick up stitches. I hope I did it right. Anyone else to that point can give me HELP!!
Tune in on Friday…I’ll be casting on this week.
woh what super yarn! the thing that i love about knitting is the accomplishment i feel after i finish a project
Hope I’m not too late to be entered in the give away. I love the shawl but have too much on the needles to start it now. It is in to-do list. Love the yarn.
I love the clean look of knitting and this would be perfect. So beautiful.
The yarn and the pattern seem to be a perfect match. A great summer project.
I love that knitting is so portable–I can bring it with me anywhere and have something to do with my hands while out in the world! Gorgeous colors in that yarn–thanks for the giveaway!
My needles never need an excuse to start knitting lace…. :0)
Now I just need to decide which yarn from my stash will be the lucky winner!
I am new to Craftsy but am loving it. Thanks for such a wonderful resource.
hugs from the UK
T
Such a lovely pattern! I’d love to join in – but I don’t have the yarn. I love knitting, because it reminds me so much of time with my Nonna (grandmother in Italian). She taught me when I was a small girl. I also enjoy knitting because a bit of relaxation time with my hands, needles and some yarn, and I have something lovely to donate – or to gift – or to wear! How can you beat that?
I have not done a knit along – but this is tempting.
What a lovely pattern–thank you! It has so much dimension to it, but light and frothy…
Great pattern, great yarn…what more could a knitter ask for?
I love watching my project develop as I knit, and the sense of completion I get when I finish something. I also enjoy the willingness of other knitters to help when I need assistance.
I love the fact that I can make a whole sweater with just a piece of string!
What I love most about knitting is the portability. I also like that you can choose to do simple or more challenging projects depending on your mood, environment, needs, etc. It is so versatile.
Knitting gives me peace of mind and a sense of accomplishment–what more could one ask for?
This is beautiful yarn! I’m addicted to sock yarn…
I love to knit! I love learning new patterns and stitches. The shawlette is beautiful.
I find kitting very relaxing, and I can’t stand to just sit without doing something.
Beautiful yarn, Beautiful pattern. Can’t wait to try it.
Honestly what’s not to love about knitting , yummy fibers, beautiful colors, funny crazy and creative people, its all good!!!!
I love fibre in all it’s states. I spin weave and kit. I think I had better get on with my Christmas projects. This shawl would be wonderful for a DIL
Love, love this pattern and especially the yarn! Please enter me in the drawing. Thanks!
I have been knitting for at least 60 years and it continues to challenge me. Added to my love of all kinds of needlework it keeps my hands and mind busy, at the same time is very relaxing!
Would LOVE to win this skein of yarn and make this shawl too!! Thanks for the chance.
I love the feeling of creating something from (almost) nothing that I get when knitting. I also love being somewhat self-sufficient, in that I can create some of my own clothing items. When I can’t find something I want in stores, often I can just make it!
I also love that knitting makes me feel productive when I would otherwise feel like I was wasting time – like when watching movies or T.V.! And of course, it can also be quite relaxing, though that can depend on the project I’m working on
I have have been knitting for what seems like forever. My grandmother taught all of her grandaughters and some of her great granddaughters. We all still knit! My latest accomplishment was socks but after my cousin sent me this pattern I am ready to go for it.
I’m in too ! looks pretty.
I love knitting because it can be relaxing or challenging depending on the project, because it lets me work with beautiful materials, and because the result is usually useful.
Knitting is soothing and meditative, as well as challenging and satisfying in the creation of something, and a tremendous place of peace for me to be in the mayhem of a young family – two beautiful girls, about to be ages 4 and 6
What do I love about knitting?? I love knitting SOCKS!!!!!! I would love to try the Solemate yarn. I hope I win. That is a gorgeous shawl!
The shawl is beautiful. Thanks for a chance at winning the yarn.
What I love about knitting is how soothing it is for me and that it is my outlet to create something that I have total control over.
Great timing! I’ve finished lacy baktus and I”m looking for my next project.
I love to knit because it helps me to feel connected to the earth. I love the ease and the complexity. I love the feel of the string & sticks between my fingers and the feel of fabric hanging from the sticks. I love how my nerves calm and my brain becomes centered on the task at hand.
I have just joined. and I look forward to seeing more projects. I am a beginner when it comes to knitting and i really want to learn more!
PS – the yarn os lovely!
Knitting is soothing, relaxing and meditative. I enjoy the
Knitting is soothing, relaxing and meditative. I enjoy the quiet time. I also enjoy making things with my hands and learning new things. With knitting, I’m always learning something new. thanks for the contest.
Portability – other crafts …sewing..quilting..are not as portable as knitting.
I love how creative I can be with knitting.
I started this over the weekend and I’m about halfway through the stockinette section. Works up fast, and it’s so pretty in the Noro. Right now there is no striping (the colors are kind of “blocked” as if I changed yarn every once in a while), but it will be nice to see how the Noro works with the lace section.
Jaquie, I’m using Noro sock yarn too. It’s fun to see what’s developing as the colors change. I’m half way through the lace section and still liking the patterning. Have fun.
I love creating beautiful things by knitting.
What do I love about knitting? For me, it’s a moving meditation, priceless therapy, creative and fun and productive all at once.
I’m new to Craftsy and checking it out. Totally new and interesting content! Love anything Lorna makes!
Knitting allows me to be creative and is the perfect way to relax after a trying day!
I love everything about it! The visual and tactile experience and i love the process of making something out of string and sticks.
What I love most about knitting is seeing how a given yarn, includings its weight, color(s) and texture, works with (or sometimes against!) the pattern I’m making with it. Most recently I bought a kit containing a variegated yarn, and I did NOT like the photo of it used with the included pattern – the colors pooled in an (IMHO) unattractive way. But with a different pattern the yarn coloring was total magic!
So I’d dearly LOVE to see how the Lorna’s Laces variegated yarn you’ve chosen works with the Holden Shawlette pattern. I hope I win this yarn and get the opportunity to see for myself!
I love lace projects, even do sometimes I have some trouble reading the charts, like when there is a number before a yarn over stitch, because I do not know if I have to do example the number 2 then yarn over or higher numbers. So I try to avoid those patterns, since I have not figure it out what I am suppose to do.
Hope you could give some advice, since I love to do knitted doilies, special those pattern from Herbert Niebling.
There are so many things to love about knitting. I really like the satisfaction of making something.
I’d love to join craftsy and I think this shawlette is beautiful! Can’t wait to cast on.
I queued up this shawlette too when I saw it on Ravelry! It’s beautiful and will look great in the colorway you chose.
I suppose my favorite thing about knitting is making clothes for my kids, and being able to think about garment construction in a more 3-D, sculptural way, especially when knitting in the round. I also love reading about what knit bloggers are making, and getting inspiration from their projects. Glampyre was the first knit blog I ever found, back when you were dying yarn on your stovetop in Baltimore!
I have been admiring the Holden pattern; not only is it beautiful, but my cat is named Holden too! After reading this post I am officially going to cast on for this shawl stat! Just have to stash dive!
I was planning on starting the Holden pattern for a gift for a friend in the next couple of weeks, so the timing for this is perfect! What I love about knitting is that it allows me (a person who can’t draw or sculpt or paint worth a darn) to create something artistic and beautiful.
Already a member and would love to have my fingers in this yarn!!!!
What’s the best way to join the knit-along so that I don’t miss posts about it. I’m a member of craftsy but I have not followed a knit-along before.
Hi Amanda!
You don’t really need to do anything to join, just check back here (maybe bookmark the Craftsy blog) every Friday. I’ll post with progress on Fridays and also add any hints or talk about any problems I have along the way!
This looks like a quick neat project for a summer knit! For me knitting is meditative and I can lose myself for hours and have something beautiful to show for it!
8/11/2011 UPDATE: The contest is over now, and the winner has been notified. Please check this blog often for more contests and giveaways from lovely designers and companies!
Just got to 193 stitches in stockinette! Getting ready to start the lace section.
I just got the yarn in the mail today and I’m excited to get started!
I just found your website and loved the info on casting on………..I have just started the Holden Shawlette and wish I had found this site when you were having the knit along. Is there a chance you still have it online and I could follow along??
First try with this much lace & loved finding your site when I was googling 90 degree angle, to see how much it was…….
Jolene
All of the posts from the knit-along are still online, have fun!
